Sky and Kadeem : A Hood Love Story

My mother left the day Tyhir had his school play. She didn't say a word to me, she just packed her stuff and went on her way. While Kadeem hustled I returned to work and tried to act like I wasn't fazed by what Tina had done. Meylin was acting like everything was normal and it frustrated me.

"Where is Tina at Meylin? I know that your sister ...you had to have spoken to her."I said

"I haven't talked to Tina in weeks , Sky, I wouldn't lie about that."She said, putting her hot comb down and staring at me. I cleaned up the hair on the seat and floor and sat down in the chair . It was 3 pm and the shop closes at 5 but we haven't had clients.

"Meylin... I think it's best that I let you go.''I said. Meylin hopped up with rage in her eyes and her fist balled up.

"You're firing me??Why?! I really don't know where Tina is. I swear I have nothing to do with that !"She yelled .

"Meylin, I don't believe you. There is no way you don't know a thing ! she is your big sister .. There is no way."

"You know what.. I am glad she took that money. You prance around here acting like you better than everyone. Acting so bougie and I am tired of it!''She yelled, grabbing her bag.

"Bougie? Girl please i am farrrrrr from bougie. You sound jealous?

"Girllll if only you knew. Just have my money friday...you're gonna pay for this watch.''Meylin yelled walking out of the shop. I jumped at the sound of the door slamming behind her. Now both of my hairdressers were gone and so was my mother. I finished cleaning up the shop and left to run errands. I kept calling Kadeem but he wasn't answering. Since finding out that he cheated on me I didn't trust him as much as before. I called Kadeem again and was sent to voicemail. I got in the car and headed home . When I got there the door was cracked and all the blinds were drawn...Kadeem's car wasn't out front either. I walked around the house and didn't hear anything. Feeling scared I walked over to the closet and grabbed a gun out of the box. As I walked up the stairs I heard music playing from my room and soft singing. I opened the door and Myelin was laying on our bed in lingerie. Kadeem wasn't in the room and the blinds were closed. My red LED lights were turned on and candles were lit.

"You're here."She smiled.

"Why the fuck are you in my ? Why are you half naked in my bed?" She got up and walked around the room singing.

"You have everything that I deserve...the kids...the man...the business...the beauty." She said, running her hands across my red lace robe that hung on the bedroom door.

"Get the fuck out of my house! You can never be me!"I yelled

"But I can ... .i almost had Kadeem...once you're gone...he will be mine."She smiled lunging towards me. The gun fell out of my hand as we started fighting. I grabbed Meylin by her hair and began beating her over and over til blood gushed from her mouth. She bit the side of my leg and I let go briefly. Meylin ran to the other side of the bed and screamed for help. I picked up the gun and walked around the bed with my gun in my hand. My friend turned enemy was shaking and begging for her life. Tears rolled down my face as I saw the photos of my children hung up on the wall. How could someone who I considered to be a close friend do this? Who would ever have such audacity? I put my foot on her throat and she shouted even louder. Some of her blood had dripped onto my newly-cleaned white carpets, which made me angrier.

"First you fuck my man, then your sister steals my money, now you are in my house..waiting for MY man?!"I yelled kicking her in her side.

"Sky..please! Forgive me!" She pleaded. I aimed the gun at her head, just as the door flew open.

"Freeze !"

Kadeem laughed and moved me out of the way. He shot Meylin a couple times in the leg and one time in the head and told me to go downstairs.

"Are you okay?"He asked me. I sat on the edge of the bed dialing 911.

"Where were you? I've been calling you?"

"I just had to kill Flock and his boys. They ran up on me at the traphouse. Now is not the time for the dramatics. call the ambulance and get this bitch out of here. You hid my gun...yours is registered.''Kadeem handed me his gun and I placed it in our car and waited for the ambulance. An ambulance treated me for our wounds and rushed Meilyn to the hospital. We took the car to the hospital to cover our tracks . Once there we sat in the waiting room and waited for the doctors and the detectives.

"You know what to say when they come in right?"

"Yes."

A couple minutes later a brown haired lady walked out to the waiting room. She was a doctor and a detective followed behind her.

"I am Doctor Donnelly ... .Meylin is in the ICU. She has been placed in a medically induced coma and we are hoping she wakes up. Detective Kilgore would like to talk to the both of you."

"Hello, I am Detective Kilgore ..can you tell me what happened tonight?"

"Kadeem and Meylin had an affair. Meylin's sister robbed my business of 100k . They both were friends of mine originally and worked at my hair salon . After firing Meylin because I felt like she was withholding information about where her sister was , I found her in my bed. She was waiting for Kadeem."

"Then what happened?"

"I told her to leave , she tried to attack me but I handled her ...I picked the gun up and shot her after tussling with her again."

"Have you made a police report about your missing money?
"Yes, I haven't heard anything back since."

"Okay if I need anything else from you I'll give you a call."The detective said, patting my shoulder.

Kadeem and I got up and left to go home. When we got there my babysitter was sitting outside Tyhir and Zaire and with fire fighters. I began pressing my hands against my head as I watched my home burn. Kadeem began cursing and pacing back and forth. Someone came back for revenge . I ran up to my kids while Kadeem spoke to police and the fire fighters . After checking into a hotel I couldn't sleep.

"Sky we are going to be okay."Kadeem said, placing his hand on my shoulder.

"After what happened tonight ...Kadeem you have to leave the game or i have to

Leave you."I said

"Sky..."

"Please Kadeem...i grew up around this shit... I am tired of this shit...this is not what I want for my boys."

"I'll stop for you...I want Ziare and Tyhir to see a real man love his mother...and see a real man handle his business."

We had to stay in the hotel for a couple weeks then we were given housing. Kadeem stopped working for Pierre and it seemed as if things were beginning to look okay.

I sat by the phone everyday waiting patiently for my mother to call me...I wanted her to let me know that she was okay but that was something she never did.

"Mommy i think you are the best."Tyhir said as we sat on the beach and threw rocks into the ocean

"Me too."Kadeem smiled, walking up to me and wrapping his arms around my waist. He kissed me on the neck and watched Ziare as he crawled around in the sand. Tyhir pointed to a dolphin doing flips near a boat. After weeks of stressing we were finally stress free and happy. Kadeem went into his bag and pulled his gun out. No one was on the beach but us but he still looked around . He threw the gun in the ocean and walked away to join Tyhir. I picked up Ziare and walked to them .

"I love you Sky."Kadeem said while holding my hand.

"I love you more Kadeem."
