You took your time getting home.

You didn't run or rush. Just took a nice stroll at a slower pace.

You let yourself relax and decided that if your parents found out, they'd already found out by now.

After a hot minute, you'd arrived back home. You still went through the window just in case your parents didn't notice you had left.

When you looked up from the windowsill, your parents were sitting on your bed with equally unimpressed looks on their faces.

Your line of vision quickly went to the ground, and you gripped your wrist tight. You weren't ashamed, but it didn't mean you didn't feel bad about it.

"What were you thinking!?" Mom shouted with a worried tone. The expression on your face got darker.

"You promised." Your mom firmly said. You shrugged and mumbled under your breath about how technically you never promised, but that only pushed your mom closer to the edge.

"Y/n L/n."

You froze up.

"Look at me. Now." You straighten up to meet your mother's eyes.

"I love you. Doing this could get you seriously hurt," She sighed and held her hands together to fidget with. "And that would devastate both me and your father. If you do this again, please tell us. So we can keep track of you."

You nod. "Okay." She smiles.

"Thank you."

.

The next day you decided to go, you told your parents.

Bidding them a goodbye as you walked out the door, you couldn't help but be a little bit disappointed.

Part of the fun and calm in this little habit of yours was feeling free.

You didn't bother taking your time on your walk. You had a curfew because you had to tell your parents.

You wanted to be in his presence for as long as possible.

Wind rushes past your face, and a feeling of contempt for the situation you were wrapped up in washed over you.

Not just at the fact that you couldn't enjoy the walk to the tracks, but also the entire scheme of things.

You didn't have a job, your own place, or a car. On top of that, the one person you could confine in was a middle-aged man you met purely by chance.

What's even worse, though, is that every time you looked in the mirror, all that was staring back at you was a failure.

The whole American dream had gone to shit with the ways of time. You lived in a shabby, rundown town in the south of Utah.

You let out a breathy sigh and decided to stop wallowing in your self-pity. It's not like you had it that bad, and you were sure you'd get through it.

And William will help you.

.

You arrived at the edge of the abandoned neighborhood. Your feet hurt, and you felt pinpricks in your legs from running without pause, but you were okay.

You started off to the train tracks that you and William spoke by.

The wind howled as it rushed past you, but you didn't mind. The cool weather soothed you and helped in clearing your fogging mind.

The cool air seeped into your skin, and it started to rain.

This, too, calmed you down, and the dark feeling settled into a buzzing numbness.
