"You're a stranger,
But there's something in your eyes.
Like you know me.
Could I know you?"

Night Like This

I walked into the courtyard, following the voices all the way to the dining room. I raised an eyebrow at Klaus and Liam playing ping pong on the table. "Uh, hi," I greeted.

"Shoot!" Liam cursed as he missed his hit, turning to look at me. "What's up, Lotts? How was breakfast?" He asked me.

I bit back a smile. I didn't know how to act in front of Kol's family. Like isn't it awkward that I'm dating again? The word sounded icky. I had never played the field much. I maybe had a date to school dances or other functions before Damon. Then he and I were pretty serious, in love... before he broke my heart. And in the matter of weeks, a month or two Kol and I were together, very serious. And just as quickly as we fell in love, we fell into grief and heartache.

"Food was okay. I wasn't too hungry. Too hungover," I shrugged. "But we went to this bookstore cafe and... it was magnificent. I can't wait to go back."

"Well, now that you're here, I must be off," Klaus said. "Off to see a witch."

Liam snickered while I shot Klaus a pointed look for telling the truth. "Good luck," I said as he headed towards me in the exit.

"She's the one who needs it, love," Klaus smirked, giving my shoulder an affectionate squeeze before leaving.

"Hope Klaus was nice," I told my friend.

"Oh, dope. He like had a fancy breakfast here. A hot chick served me and everything."

I nodded, "well, I saw this flyer at the book cafe. There's a party tonight."

I dug in my purse for the flyer, pulling it out to show to Liam. "You should invite, Davina," he replied to me, grinning.

"You like Davina?" I asked, smiling. They would definitely be cute. But I didn't want to play matchmaker if he was against the idea.

"She's really cute."

I nodded, "I'll text her."

"Cool, cool," he said, sitting down on the top of the table. He then raised his brows as I was typing away on my phone. "So how was your date?" He asked.

"I like him," I whispered. "I don't know how. Or why. But I do. I can't help it. The kid is really likable and he like reads my mind."

Liam smiled softly, sincere, "There really is nothing wrong with you moving on, Lottie. Two years is a long time. Kol wouldn't blame you if you found yourself in a serious relationship."

I frowned, shaking my hand, "Serious? Okay. That's premature. I just like his company. I don't know it's more than that."

"What about Zander?" He questioned.

"What about him?" I mumbled, wincing as I remembered I've been ignoring him since we left our separate ways after Aspen. Well, not full on ignoring, but barely remember to answer his texts. He was a nice guy and I was looking forward sweet little texting back and forward, maybe some harmless flirting between riveting conversation.

But Kaleb... He had consumed my mind and left no room for another guy. Not even Zander who I did spend the last month actually getting to know. Now he was across the country and Kaleb was here with his addictive personality and persistence.
