"This ship, those ghosts... There can be no logical explanation," Carina said. "The myths of the sea are real, Carina," I said. "I'm glad you can finally see you were wrong," I added with a smile. "Wrong? Perhaps I had some doubts," She said. "This is the worst apology I've ever heard," Will said. "Absolutely!" Elizabeth said. "Definitely!" Henry said. "Ok, kids. That's enough," I said. "Apology? Why would I apologize?" "Because we've been chased by the dead, sailing on a ship raised from a bottle. Where is your science in that? Also, I'd just like to point out... my aunt was right!" Henry said. "Fine, then I will apologize," Carina said. "Go on, then." "Although one could argue that you owe me an apology... as my life has been threatened by pirates and dead men," She said.

"Which you now believe in, sorry to say," Henry said. "Apology accepted." "I'm going to the lookout," Henry said. "I'll come with you," Will said. "I'm glad you see it my way," Carina said. Carina and I were now looking through her diary. "Where did you get that from, missy?" Hector asked. "I know this book. Stolen from an Italian ship many years ago,' Hector said. "Stolen? No, you're mistaken," She said. "There was a ruby on the cover I would not soon forget," He said. "This was given to me by my father... who was clearly a man of science."

"He was clearly a common thief," Hector said. "The memory of my father will not be defiled by the tongue of a pirate," She said. I stepped between Carina and Hector, my eyes ablaze with fire. I slapped her, "And my father will not by slapped by some little girl! Don't you ever try anything like that again!" "This diary is my birthright. Left to me on the steps of a children's home. Along with a name and nothing else," She explained.

"Oh, so you're an orphan. What be you called?" Hector said. "Brightest star in the North gave me my name," She replied. "That would be Carina," He said. "Carina Smyth. So you do know your stars," She said. "I'm a captain. I know which stars to follow home," He said. I saw the look on Hector's face and I realized something, "Oh... My... God! Carina Smyth is Hector's daughter!" That realization came with a sinking feeling for me. "Now that Hector has a daughter who's his blood, he'll probably no longer see me as a daughter," I thought. I went into my cabin so that I could cry in peace. "I know what it's like to lose one father. Now, I've lost two. I really am an orphan." I thought as I cried myself to sleep.
