Chapter 2
Kai
I was sitting in the pack house living room when a small girl approached me. She handed me what looked to be a chocolate chip cookie. I took it from her hand and said thank you. When she smiled, she had a small little dimple high on her cheek and then skipped away. I began to skip through the channels once more before my father decided to call me to come out back and help him clean up the training grounds.
I stood up and walked out back when I saw the small girl run to the window like a little puppy. I gave a light chuckle and walked towards the back of the house and out the back door. I followed the path straight to the training grounds; it was cold outside, and I could see my breath. I could feel my wolf Keota stir inside, wanting to come out and catch some falling snow with his own tongue.
"Keota, I will let you come out in a bit and play in the snow, but after we get home, okay?" Keota sighed and agreed. He loves the snow way too much. He blends completely in. Keota is pure white and ice-blue eyes.
I reached the training ground, and there must have been a large group because the whole place was a complete mess. My father and I really have no rank. We don't live in the pack house, and we just help. I am almost done with my senior year of high school, and I still haven't found my mate.
My dad handed me a broom, and I started to sweep up the walkway leading to the start of the large indoor field. I felt Keota begin to stir once again, and this time, I had an ice-cold chill run down my back, but this time, it wasn't from the weather. I see my father, his eyes wide, and begin to run across the field, I can feel a large presence behind me, but I am completely frozen to the ground.
Why has whoever this is not attack me I can feel like a hot breath from the wolf breathing down my neck. I am still staring at my father as he gets to the middle of the field, and out of nowhere, I see another large wolf jump from the stands and crush him like it was nothing.
At this point, the giant wolf that is behind me swipes me to the left with a paw, and I go crashing into the wall. Pain racks through my entire body, I can see the wolf staring at me. Everything becomes so blurry that I pass out from the injuries.
I am unsure how long I was out, but I was woken up by the sound of Keota whining in the back of my mind. I hope he is okay, goddess. I hope that I'm okay. I try to stand but can't seem to get my legs to get underneath me. I hear constant screams, and, in the distance, I can see the packhouse on fire, windows are busted out, and I can see people dead sprawled out across the snowy lawn. I turn my head to the left to face the training field and barely can make out the flat figure that was once my own father.
Another round of intense pain seers through my side, I hear Keota trying to talk to me. I'm trying to get my body to move, but my body is so weak. I can't find the strength to stand, I can feel myself drifting once again into a slumber. This time, Keota didn't try to fight me on it.
I woke up once more this time to complete silence. I look around and see a fresh coat of snow beginning to fall on the ground, covering the massacre that just took place here. I know how the winters are. It is going to keep snowing, and nobody will find the events till spring. I feel I am no longer in pain and begin to stand up, I look around into the field once more and again see what used to be my father laying there.
I started making my way back to the pack house to look at the damage that had unfolded inside, and it was not good. I could hear footsteps on the floor directly above me, and I froze completely.
"Somebody is still here," Keota said, "I can smell them, it's Beta blood and they smell injured."
I slowly make my way to the living room, and I look to the left by the stairs, I cover my mouth at the sight of the sweet little girl who had given me a cookie earlier that day. I turn to make my way to the kitchen to see if there is anything I can take because Goddess knows I am not staying here.
I see another figure on the ground, I feel bad for those who died, but I need to get out of here and as far away as possible. I find a random bag in the pantry and begin shoving food in it. I hear the kitchen door open and close, and I froze.
"Who are you and what have you done to my pack." Yelled the stranger who just came into the kitchen.
I turned around slowly and noticed that it was the young Beta, the soon-to-be or more so the was soon to be Beta. Harlow. For some reason, this boy grabbed the first thing he could think of. I let out a chuckle at the remote controller he pointed at my face.
"Listen, Harlow, I am not here to hurt you. I am just grabbing supplies and ditching this nonexistent pack."
"How, do you know my name, I have never seen you before at pack meetings or around the house, or even at school," Harlow said, still holding the controller, trying to be threatening.
"Listen, I am part of this pack. My father and I moved here about two years ago after my mother passed. I don't live in the pack house. I was helping my father with work when the attack happened. I am a senior and almost done with high school." I said calmly.
I am so much calmer than I probably should be in all honesty. I could see the hesitation on his face, and then he dropped the controller and reached out a hand instead. Now it was my turn to hesitate. This guy is a ticking time bomb. If he can go psycho one moment and then completely calm the next, I want to get as far away from him as possible.
I reached out my hand and shook it, introducing myself. I then turned back around and finished grabbing supplies from the pantry. Once I was satisfied, I threw it over my shoulder and walked out of the kitchen.
"Wait, where are you going? Help should be arriving soon." Harlow said, following me out into the living room.
"Uh, yeah, that is a hard pass for me," I said, stepping over bodies towards the front door and glancing down at the small girl laying at the bottom of the stairs. "You see Harlow, it is going to happen one of two ways; we stay, and it's fine, or we stay, and we both die when they come back. I, on the other hand, would like to not find out which of those two options are going to be coming true."
"Okay, then I am coming with you. Give me five minutes." Harlow disappeared upstairs and about five minutes later came back down with two more shoulder bags full of what I presume to be more clothes.
I shrugged my shoulders and bellow for him to follow, when I turned the knob to the front door it was already dark outside. We stepped out onto the porch, and I could make out a frame walking down the road, I couldn't tell who it was or where they came from. I could see the two bags thrown over their shoulders. They must be running too.

Werewolf"Shh, Dad. Don't try to say anything." I grab his hand, which now mine was covered in both my mother's and his out blood. He pulled me closer so I was just inches away from his mouth and I could hear the faintest sound. "Run" I know he didn't speak...
