Fairies were possibly the most famous myth known to man, stories of the creatures had been shared for centuries, the stories growing as time went on. Parents changing the plot to suit their children, a never ending customised cycle of fairies that ignited the imagination of many children, teenagers and even adults worldwide. Fairies were all given different jobs to work around humans, any story a human comes up with has probably happened without them noticing.
The most popular fairy, the tooth fairy, hardly ever rested. They were out almost every night, trying to fly with giant coins wasn't easy. Luke was a tooth fairy once, but he was later promoted to petal polisher. His job was to fly around the flowers and brighten up any dying or dead ones, he enjoyed the job very much, giving flowers a new life.
Right now, Luke was sitting on the edge of the small glittery house that was owned by his parents. The baby blue home wasn't too big or too small for the family, it was perfect. His father worked as a soil fairy, improving the damaged soil to save farmers and gardeners some time. His mum is a retired tooth fairy, she was looking into a new job, but soon gave up when she was told the only available position was the house fairy. In which the fairies clean the home while the owners are out. Mum's would typically shout "so the fairies did it did they?!" And of course the fairies would stand on the window ledge, giggling amongst themselves.
Luke lived on the outskirts of a very small village, he knew everyone by name, of course they didn't know him. There was no official rule against fairies communicating with the humans, but no one had the courage to do so. Luke's job was due to start, and for the past few days, all the flowers were fine, and the bees buzzed in excitement. Luke liked bees, it was wasps he despised.
Luke sighed as he tugged on his green pointy hat
"I'm going" he shouted to his father who was currently in the small green house planting new tomatoes. One time, he got the fairy seeds mixed with the human tomato seeds and they ended up with a giant tomato the same size as their house, took them days to eat.
Luke stretched his wings before flying off, spreading his arms as he waved at the odd fairy passing. His friend Ashton, who also worked as a petal polisher, flew beside him.
"Do you think we'll have something to do today?" He asked
"Probably not, mum flew around this morning and said there was barely anything" Luke sighed. Unlike humans, fairies didn't get paid, they were expected to work for the humans and get nothing in return. They used to get paid small doses of fairy dust that did absolutely nothing, it just sounded good.
"Mum said that we should probably go into houses and stuff" Ashton spoke
"Really?" Luke asked shocked "but they're humans!"
"There's no law against us speaking to humans"
There was however a law that fairies weren't allowed to ride dogs instead of flying.
"Maybe we should suggest it to the boss, she wouldn't be happy if we went without her consent"
Ashton shook his head as he landed on the giant leaf that lead to the trees where their starting office was located.
"She won't mind, we're still doing our job."

An hour later, and luke had just landed in his seventh house. There were no flowers outside that needed polishing, and so he decided to go with Ashton's idea. He walked around the window ledge before jumping in, almost landing in the sink full of bubbles. Luke did that once, and he was stuck in a bubble for an hour, bouncing around the room until it popped.
He noticed a vase of flowers that were all either dead or dying, they were practically screaming for help, and Luke did just that. He made sure the coast was clear before fluttering towards the vase and climbing up it. He took off his bag and grabbed the see through casing that held the powder that brightened the flowers. He scattered it around the flowers, smiling as he watched them brighten up.
"Oh Michael!" A woman exclaimed "did you buy me new flowers?"
"No, why?" A boy asked.
The woman was walking towards the vase, Luke had no option but to hide. He fluttered around until he found a shirt, he quickly hid in the pocket.
"Mum did you put that glitter confetti thing in my pockets again?" The boy groaned as he put the shirt on.
"It was probably your auntie, you know she likes her glitter"
"I like glitter" a little girl squealed
"It's stupid"
"Fairies like glitter too"
"They're even worse"
Luke huffed in annoyance
"At least we understand the process of showering" Luke whispered to himself.
