"You can't bring this with you." Maximus said, holding up a knife that I had stashed in one of my bags.
I frowned before shrugging. "I can use my fist better anyways." Yeah, right. That was just my decoy knife. Did they really think I wouldn't bring more?
"I love you, Skiler. Who knows, maybe you'll find your mate!" My mother said, smirking at me before squeezing me to death in a hug.
"No." All three of my dad's said upon her mentioning of my findings my mate. I honestly think they're scared that I'll find three like my poor mother had. Ha!
"If I'm about to walk into an asylum, will you at least tell me beforehand. I would at least like to choose my last dying words before I'm lobotomized." I said jokingly, which obviously didn't go over well with the blank looks from my parents. "Touch crowd." I muttered under my breath as I walked towards the open door in the back of the car.
The driver shut the door, sealing my fate as I watched my parents get smaller and smaller in the distance. I leaned my body back into the seat and mentally shut the door to my old life closed.
I reached into my pocket, taking a tin case out and opening it to the most prized herb in the world. Marijuana. I took the rolled-up joint out and cracked the window.
The driver, Ian, looked back at me and smiled. "You know you can't be doing that at the academy, Skiler."
I rolled my eyes and took a hit. "If humans can use it as medicine, then who the fuck can tell me I can't?" It's true. It really does help me calm down, which in return, makes my magic calm down.
Soon enough we arrive up the sloping roads leading to a looking gate with fog surrounding the front lawn of the academy. My reddened eyes practically rolled out of my head at the cliche looking setup in front of me. This looked like a supernatural version of beyond scared straight.
Ian pulled the car up outside and went around to the trunk to retrieve my bags. I lazily get out of the car, feeling the buzz of weed flow through my system.
"You could at least act like you're a proper, sober student." Ian whispered in my ear as he put his hand on my lower back, pushing me in the direction of the front doors.
I smiled, leaning slightly into his touch. "We both know I'm no proper lady, Ian." I teased, knowing that he's probably thinking of our late-night hookups when he was supposed to be chauffeuring me around. He cleared his throat, pulling open the doors and ushering me inside.
The building was surprisingly empty when we entered. A few students were scattered here and there as we walked down the hallway towards what I assumed was the headmaster's office.
I stopped abruptly, one inch from almost crashing into a wall. I looked up. Nope, not a wall, but a solid chest covered in a black tee. My eyes trailed up, locking with pitch-black eyes of an angry madman who was currently glaring at me. A hot madman. "Do you mind?" He sneered in a sinfully dark voice.
I smiled sweetly at him, which obviously threw him off. "Do you fucking mind?" I asked back, turning my smile into a downright terrifying scowl.
I stepped around him, feeling those dark eyes on my back. I had a feeling that if I turned around, his eyes would suck me into a vision. I don't give a damn how hot he was, I wouldn't be falling for it.
I walked into the open doorway of the headmaster's office and my eyes immediately sought out the tall muscle of a God, blonde in the corner. His eyes caught mine as he subtly looked at me from head to toe. He smiled brightly at me.
"Ah, Mr. Maxwell. We're so glad to have you here. Welcome to Bloodmoon Academy, I'm Headmaster Oxford." The frail-looking old man said from the desk in the center of the room.
I reluctantly took my eyes away from the six and a half feet of muscle eyeing for my attention. "Pleased to meet you. You can call me Skiler." I said, draping all five feet and four inches of my body into the chair.
Headmaster Oxford leaned forward slightly in his chair, squinting his eyes at me. "Your eyes are a little red, Ms. Maxwell. As a student here, you do know that our policies include a no drug zone."
I raised my eyebrows at his stern voice. I leaned forward in my chair until I was practically hovering over the desk. "I use marijuana in a medicinal sense. You know, for my magic."
I heard a slight chuckle coming from the hunk in the corner at my response.
Headmaster Oxford sat up ramrod straight as he tugged on his tie. "Yes. Yes. Your magic quite…" He didn't care to elaborate on that.
I looked down at the folder on the desk with my picture in the corner. I looked at the smiling picture of a silver-haired girl with piercing blue eyes staring back at me. I tried to take a peek at the information listed under my name but didn't manage to get more than my basic bio and age before Oxford snatched the file up and stored it away.
"Kendrick here will take you to your dorm. Your schedule and school uniform will be in your room already. Your money will be transferred into an account for you to use by the afternoon. Any questions?"
I didn't bother replying as I looked at the blonde who was currently smirking at me. Kendrick, hmm? I tried getting a read on what species he must be.
A throat cleared and I almost completely forgot Ian was still standing there with my bags. "You need help settling in, M?" He asked, looking over at the smirking giant next to me with obvious distaste.
"No thanks, Ian. Drive home safe." I smiled, giving him a hug before taking my bags and following Kendrick out of the office.
"So, you're a lion shifter, right?" I asked bluntly, falling into step with Kendrick.
He threw his head back and laughed, although it came out more like a roar. "You sure are intuitive. What gave it away?" He asked as his eyes lit up in amusement.
I shrugged my shoulders. "Blonde hair, golden brown eyes, body built like a shifter. Made sense."
He grinned at me before giving me a curious look. "And what might you be, shortcake?"
I grinned a devious smile. "I guess you'll have to wait and see."
He shook his head but couldn't hide the wide grin that spread across his face. "Fair enough. Anyways, your dorm is right across from mine. So if you need me, you know where to go." He said, waggling his eyebrows in a suggestive gesture as he pulled a key out and stuck it into a door handle.
The door opened reluctantly as voices trailed through the doorway. Huh. Guess it's soundproofed by magic. Good to know. The voices abruptly stopped as we strode in.
"Are you fucking kidding me? Why the hell are you in my dorm room, Kendrick?" I looked over at the tall guy as the sun shined through the window, lighting up his messy, chocolate hair. But that wasn't what drew my attention the most. No. The light of the sun was a bright contrast against the pitch-black feathers of his wings. And let me tell you, they were huge.
His wings fanned down his shirtless back as he stood tie to toe with a small, petite, and beautiful girl. Her unruly red hair flowed around her as she glares up at the angel in front of her.
Kendrick lounged lazily against the doorframe, seeming to find this encounter completely amusing. "What? I'd thought you'd be happy to see me! Did last night mean nothing to you?" Kendrick said in mock hurt. The dark-winged giant was grinding his teeth in annoyance. "Nah, I'm just helping out our new student here. Skiler was it? I'm Kendrick by the way, and these two right here are your roommates. Olivia and Quinton."
I kept my face blank as I realized that these were co-ed dorms. And looking at the shirtless angel standing in front of me, this would not end well. Or it would end very, very well.
I could see his eyes rake down my body in obvious interest before he turned away towards the window. I watched in awe as he flew out the window…Literally. Wow, way to make an impression Skiler.
"Well, he seems lovely." I said as I walked over towards the empty bunk and threw my bag up too.
A girlish laugh brought me back to the fact that I wasn't alone. "He's a righteous prick. No reason to beat around the bush." Olivia said, throwing herself into her bottom bunk on the other side of the room.
"Well, as much fun as it would be to watch you girls bind over your dislike of our dearly demented angel, Professor Lacoste will have my ass if I don't retrieve the frogs for Tuesday's lecture." He gave me a grin before adding. "See you in first period tomorrow, potions class." Holy hell that smile could do wonders to solve the drought crisis back home.
He gave me one last look before closing the door, leaving me to make small talk with my new roommate. I looked over at Olivia, noticing she was humming underneath her breath. I zoned into her voice, feeling like it was drawing me in, asking me for something.
"Oh, shit! Sorry." Olivia's voice broke me out of my trance. "I'm a siren. Sometimes I forget that my powers have such a strong effect." I looked down at my pebbled nipples, noticing what kind of effect her powers had on me.
I shrugged, not at all embarrassed that I was essentially perking up to her. "I get it. Must be tiring to always turn people on." I jokingly said, hopping up into my bunk, noticing that it was almost nine o'clock at night already.
She sighed heavily and came to climb up into my bunk with me. Umm, okay then. "You have no idea," She said seriously, rubbing her face into her hands. "Sometimes I wonder if people are just attracted to me because of what I am or if I'm actually worth noticing."
I widened my eyes at her statement. I do not do girl talk. Or any talk for that matter. "Uh, right. Well, I can't say that I relate. I'm probably a solid seven out of ten, but hey, you win some and you lose some."
"Ugh! You're so unbelievably pretty, you don't even notice," She said, looking at me with a look in her eye.
"I like dick," I clarified, realizing what that look was. "I made out with a girl before, but after seeing what was below the belt, I realized I am one hundred percent strictly dickly."
She looked at me for a few seconds before glancing over my shoulder to the window and laughing loudly. I turned my head, seeing Quinton standing by the window with his mouth slightly open and his wings moving subtly.
He quickly schooled his features before striding over to the top bunk above Olivia's bed and perching himself on top. His wings draped over the edge of the bed as he laid back with effortless grace. I was really enjoying the view. That was until he opened his mouth.
"First rule nee girl, don't touch my shit. Second rule, don't wake up the rest of the room when coming back late at night. And third rule, don't bring any one-night stands back to the room. No one wants to hear that." He said seriously.
  Wow, what a killjoy.
"One, I doubt you have a single thing I would want to touch." Lie. " Second, I don't stay out late anyways." Lie. "And third, that's what silencing bubbles and a sheet are for." Truth.
Olivia threw her head back in a melodic laugh as she went to lay down in her own bed. The sound of her laughter almost made me go back into a trance. I looked over, noticing that Quinton wasn't one but affected by her powers. Huh, interesting.
Before he could answer me, I snapped my fingers, plunging us into the night sky of darkness leaking in through the window. "Goodnight." I whispered, using my magic to travel my voice across the room and caress the angel's ear.
I heard a huff and the sound of feathers moving across the bed on the opposite side of the room. I smiled into the darkness before I closed my eyes. Oh, Bloodmoon Academy, you have no idea what's in store for you.
