"Felix ! Mom said to come and eat" the girl yelled from the back porch of their home.
"I'm coming"16 year old Felix, well only for a few more months that is. It's summer here in Australia and the weather is beautiful, sun is just right and the wind is blowing perfectly. It's the perfects summers day.
Summer in Australia is so much fun because there's lots of things to do, no one is ever inside during this time and it's the time where tourists from all over come to enjoy their breaks.
Felix although Korean has always lived here, he doesn't really know how his family ended up here but he never complained. It's the perfect place to live
Unlike most parents his parents were very laid back they didn't really hold him to a standard or expect too much from him, all in all they just wanted him to be happy. Which he was, he'll be 17 years old in September and at that age all they really wanted for him to do was get a job or go to school, he didn't have to have his whole life figured out but they wanted him to have an idea.It was Felix, his parents and his two sisters and here they are gathered at the kitchen table to eat breakfast.
"So Felix, a little bird told me that the neighbor girl from down the street has a crush on you" teased his older sister. He rolled his eyes as she spoke because this isn't the first time he's heard of this rumor and he knows it wouldn't be the last. "Well you shouldn't believe everything you hear" he spat as he poured himself some juice. Their mother and father chuckled "sibling love" his mother said, "Son have you tried looking for a job you can do over the summer ?" His father asked. Felix groaned internally he knows eventually he has to start working but why does he have to do it right at this moment ? He is a teenager who just got out of school and now he is expected to work, it's summer break.. he should be going to parties and coming home late or staying at the beach till the sun sets.
"Um I tried the ice cream shop and the lifeguard station but no luck" he said as he took a bite of his food, he'd hope that would get his parents off his back for the time being. "Well you know Felix, I had a job at your age and it taught me responsibility and how to money manage, that's why I think it's so imp-" at this point Felix would just block his parents voices out, he'd hum and nod in response but he didn't actually hear what they would say.
"But that is why you should really apply yourself" his dad finished his speech, taking a sip of his coffee.Felix just nodded "you're right dad, I think I am going to apply myself" he soon got up, took his plate to the sink and went to his room. He crashed onto his bed as he just thought of random things, he wanted to get ready and go out but he figured he should let his dad leave for work before he does.
The minute he found out his dad had left and his mom went grocery shopping, he quickly got ready and sprinted out the door. He walked a couple houses down until he got to another home on the block, he walked up the front door and knocked before he got an answer.
"Hey Felix !" the woman smiled as she opened the door for the boy to come in "hello, is Chan home ?"
she smiled as she directed him upstairs, Felix ran up the stairs and into the man's room where he was still sleeping. He laughed out loud because Chan sleep position was all over the place, "WAKE UP CHRIS"
The boy immediately jumped up "I'm awake! I'm awake" he groaned.
Felix laughed, Chan was like an older brother to him and he was the only other Korean - Australian kid his age around. "Ok Felix, what do we have planned today" the man said as he began to fold his blankets. "Mhmm want to go people watch ?"The older boy chuckled "people watch ? Why ? you expecting to find the love of your life"
Felix scoffed "oh yeah" he said sarcastically
