I awoke with a splitting headache. There was a bag of ice on my head and somehow, I ended up on my couch. How did I end up here? Someone took me here. I bet it was that person at the park. Park? Why was I at the park? Wait I was reading something... A letter! I was reading a letter from... Damn it. Why can't I remember? That hit to the noggin must have been worse than I thought.

"Letter... Where's the letter!?" I shouted.

I frantically searched around me, before finding it in my jacket that was hanging by the door.

I took it out and saw the letter was labeled "Cameron" Cameron? That's not right... it doesn't feel right. To make sure it was the right letter, I decided to read it. When I opened the letter some scraps of paper fell out. I paid no mind to it and went on with reading.

Dear Cameron,

There are some things that I have to get off of my chest. You were right. I did come home for a reason. My captain wanted to send someone undercover to investigate the murders that happen on your birthday. As someone who used to live in Prinrole, they thought I would be able to fit in the best. I was told to act like I came home for a visit, but you know once people get the chance to leave this town, they never want to come back.

They have you as their main suspect, Cameron. They wanted to me to watch you, but I knew I was the last person you wanted to see. I had to do it though. I know how important this case is to you and I didn't want to leave you alone. I couldn't leave you alone.

Listen, I'm sorry for everything. I should have never left. You needed me and I wasn't there. Truth is, you weren't there when I needed you either. You want to know why I left? Fine. I left because I wasn't getting anywhere. It felt like I was in your shadow. After you became a detective and I didn't, I felt angry. Jealous even. You got what I wanted. You got what I worked so hard for. You promised that this wouldn't change anything between us, yet it did. It changed everything. You would come home later and later. Sometimes you wouldn't even come home at all. I was in that house, your house alone. You know how I used to get when I was alone.

Around the same time, you got your promotion, my brother, Evan went off to college in California. My mother followed shortly after. That's when things got bad. My depression got worse, and I tried to manage it, but it was no use. You were all I had, and I felt you slipping through my fingers.

I had to do what was best for me, so when I was offered the job as a detective in Bakersfield, I took it. Being in Bakersfield meant I was closer to my family, I had the job I always wanted, and I got the help I needed.

I wanted you to come with me. I really did, but I couldn't ask you to leave everything you've ever known. You had what you wanted, and I couldn't take that away from you, So I left. Without you. I'm sorry.

Forever yours,

Elliot Wilson
