When WRT awoke, the world was ending.

Something had happened with Flower and Blackhole, and now the Earth was about to be engulfed into nothingness. All WRT could do was sit and stare in horror as everything they'd ever known was sucked up into the dark void that was slowly approaching their planet. It wasn't long before they were pulled, too.

This was it, wasn't it? This was the end of everything they'd ever known and loved. They could already feel themselves slipping away...

Suddenly, a miracle happened.

A miracle was wrapping its hand around the darkness, taking hold of it, and crushing it in its palm.

Everyone was thrown back down to Earth. WRT wavered in the air for a moment, trying to regain balance. Their head felt like it was full of cotton, although they knew that wasn't possible. The vaguely familiar voice of Blackhole spoke somewhere far away. WRT couldn't make out what he said.

As their head cleared, they heard another vaguely familiar voice. It was Liy. This time, they understood what she had said.

"What's this?" Liy was standing right next to... what is that? It was some sort of blue creature. Its shape was indistinct, but if they turned a certain way it kind of looked like the number 4.

"I dunno, try squishing it," Pie's nasal tone broke through their thoughts.

Liy did so, the creature making a gross squelching sound as its side nub was flattened.

WRT hovered closer to the scene, closing in on Liy.
"Hey, don't touch that! You don't know what it does!"

Unbeknownst to them, Saw took a step back into the crowd, just about to state the same thing.

"I do this!" The alien unexpectedly spoke, its voice catching everyone off guard. What was even stranger, though, was how it grabbed Pin and effortlessly mutilated her entire being until she was nothing but an amalgam of shapes. An unseen harp played a pleasant jingle as this happened.
"Pretty cool, don't you think?" It gestured towards the Pin colored shapes on the ground.

Expectedly, Coiny was the first to react.
With his hands clutching the sides of his head in some form of disbelief, he hesitantly asked, "Can... you bring her back?"

"No." It was blunt.

That disbelief quickly turned into desperation, "But the recovery centers are gone! They got sucked up!"

The blue thing showed no signs of interest, it hadn't even moved from the position it was in since Coiny started talking.

"Are you sure you ca-"

"Nope."

"Please, I gotta bring her back!" He began rapidly waving his arms at the alien... thing.

At least I'm not the only 'thing' anymore, WRT thought to themself.
Not the time, Another part of their mind argued, someone just died.

Fanny, who was sitting atop Cake, started speaking, the sound coming from somewhere to WRT's right.
"I hate to live in a world where Recovery is impossible, where we die forever!"

"Too bad!" Just like before, it had cut in bluntly before anyone else could say anything.

"Yeah, too bad!"
There was another one. It looked like a smaller, yellow version of the other one. Its voice was much higher than the first, who had a strange nasally sort of voice with constantly changing pitch. The yellow one resembled more of an X shape, WRT noted.

Liy voiced what WRT was thinking, "There's another one?" and then proceeded to squeeze the second one just as she had the first one. It made a light hissing sound as she did.
"It totally has a different texture from the first one!"

Donut, who was someone WRT wasn't exactly familiar with, approached the blue one with his brows furrowed.
"So what do you want, murderer?"
He then got... screeched? It was a grating sound, like nails on a chalkboard.

WRT was starting to become wary of these two.

Taco decided to make the same mistake Donut did. Luckily, the smaller of the two interrupted the screech before it could hurt her.
"No more screechy please!"
Unsurprising to no one, it got screeched.

Out of nowhere, the voice that WRT knew all to well pierced the atmosphere. It was Dora. She was one of the few people who WRT could get along with.

"Yeah! Sounds totally reasonable, Dora. Can do!" The blue one gave a thumbs up.

That's just typical, isn't it? WRT mused, Dora making peace with the unfamiliar...

They thought over when they'd first encountered the strange girl. It wasn't even that long ago, but they'd grown somewhat attached to her. It was unclear to them if the same could be said vice-versa...

Unfortunately, their train of thought crashed as they overheard the beginning of a screech. However, it was very quickly muffled by Pillow who threw herself onto the blue thing in an attempt to stop anyone having to hear that horrible sound. In return, the creature blindly clawed at the fabric covering its face.

That did result in her death. Perhaps that wasn't the best course of action. The majority of the crowd stared in horror at the sight.

Bell (one of the few objects WRT hadn't had an encounter with yet) sighed, or more accurately said the word 'sigh' out loud, "I guess we'll never get Pin or Pillow back."

Once again, it interrupted.
"Check this out!"

A drum riff played from nowhere and everywhere at once. The previously dead objects materialized from the blue one's palm, successfully being recovered.

"I'm so glad you guys remembered to bring me back!" Balloony said once he was standing on two legs again.

WRT was only half paying attention to the situation. Their full attention was on the blue integer that had unceremoniously showed up to save the Earth. There was just something about it-

Everyone around them started chattering excitedly, and WRT realised they'd missed a memo. Before they could find out what all the commotion was about, though, everyone fell silent. It was kind of unnerving.

"Now form 8 teams of 8!" The number called out, expression blanking as soon as everyone dispersed. It didn't even blink. WRT briefly wondered if it knew how.

Wait... "Teams?"

"Yes, 'teams!' Weren't you paying attention, you strange robot thing?" Balloony replied in annoyance, already walking away.

So I'm not going with him, WRT mused to themselves.
