Tamaki didn't mean to let things go this far. Really, he had no intentions of ending up like this with you, it just.... Happened.
It all started one year ago, when you transferred into class 3-A. Furry ears pointing up, tail wagging happily as you introduced yourself, big smile on your face as you talked about your dreams and aspirations.
Instantly, the whole class had been charmed. How could they not, when you looked like that? Of course, you were probably strong and capable, considering you managed to get in the class, but you had this aura of a pure being, someone that needed to be protected at all costs... A pet.
As soon as the first break between classes started, everyone was surrounding you. That's when Nejire did it. Rubbing the back of your ears, she asked, grinning "Are you like a pet doggy? Or a wolf?"
The class went silent. They didn't know how you would react. They knew she didn't mean any harm, but you didn't know that yet. What if you got angry? Yelled at them for not taking you seriously? But your reaction to her made them swoon even more. Leaning into her touch, tail hitting the chair as it wagged nonstop, ears twiching, you replied.
"Puppy... But... I'm strong, okay? I'm gonna be a hero!"
Your voice was muffled by her hand, which you were currently nuzzling. The sight was enough to make everyone's heart skip a beat. The most popular girl in class, the beautiful Hado, now caressing a cute little puppy girl, both giggling and nuzzling each other.
It came as no surprise that you became instantly popular. Nejire 'adopted' you on that day, and during lunch, introduced you to her other friends, Mirio and Tamaki. You couldn't hide your excitement, everyone was being so nice to you!
You and Mirio got along just fine, but when it came to Tamaki, trouble arose. With everyone being so eager to talk to you, you couldn't help but get sad at Tamaki's distance. He didn't say a word to you, always looking to the side, ignoring your attempts at a conversation.
A whimper caught their attention. Ears floppy, tail hanging low, you looked at the elf eared boy. "Did I do something wrong?"
He choked in his food. He was so worried about his own circumstances, that he didn't even stop to think about how rude he seemed to you. The others in the class were used to his mannerisms, but you, being new, had no way of knowing of his shy nature. The sadness in your eyes broke his heart.
As he was about to stutter an apology, Mirio intervined. "No, no, not at all! Tamaki here is just shy, okay? But he likes you just like we do, and I'm sure he wants to befriend you!"
Those words would seal Tamaki's fate. Eyes sparkling with joy, you jumped on him, panting and wagging, nuzzling his neck as you exclaimed "Yay! Friends!!"
He wanted to die. The noise of you jumping on him and making the both of you fall into the ground caused everyone to look in your direction. The weight of you on top of him, paired with the hundreds of eyes staring at the commotion were too much for him, and he wished he could escape and never come back.
But he couldn't. Because he didn't want to make you sad again.
It became a daily occurence. You clinging to him, and him allowing it, scared of making you sad.
It's not like he didn't enjoy the closeness, or that you were doing something he didn't want you to. It's just that you were too innocent, to oblivious, too cute. Which is why he couldn't say no to you, even when you did something that crossed the line of friendship. Like the times you would sit on his lap to sniff him. Or how sometimes you would lick his face in excitement.
By the end of the third year, you had Tamaki wrapped around your finger, and you didn't even know it. Which brought the both of you to the current situation.
