A Trip to Gringotts

Kya Potter was tired. She was tired of everyone's expectations of her. She was tired of the way she was treated, like she was expendable or that her only purpose was to defeat Voldemort. Kya was tired of always having to pretend to have it all together. And mostly, she was tired of everyone looking to her like she, a not even 16-year-old girl, would and could save the entire world (or even that she wanted to). She didn't even know what Voldemort's goals were, just that they are supposed to be different from hers.

"Come make breakfast, freak!" her aunt Petunia screeched, banging on the door to her small room. If the wizarding world really cared, why was Kya still here? Wouldn't they have noticed something was wrong by now? Just as she was heading downstairs to make breakfast for the Dursleys, there was a tapping on her window. Looking outside, she spotted a brown owl, with a letter that had a Gringotts seal on it.

After struggling with the window, Kya finally sat down to open the letter.

Dear Ms. Potter,

A few things have come to our attention concerning your account. By saying the word 'goblin', you will set off a portkey that will bring you here for a meeting. Please come anytime within the next hour.

                                                                                                     Sincerely,                                                                                                                                                                                                       Potter Account Manager

"FREAK! GET DOWN HERE NOW OR I'M COMING UP THERE!" Uncle Vernon boomed. She heard loud, angry footsteps coming up stairs and scrambled to grab the letter.

"Goblin!" Kya said, panicking. Then, she felt a tug at her navel and a feeling like she was being sucked into a tube and spun in circles. Suddenly she was in a heap on the floor of Gringotts. She slowly got up and looked around, observing the room. It was a simple office. It had a bookcase filled to the brim, file cabinets, and a goblin occupied desk.

"Good afternoon, Miss Potter. Please take a seat," said the goblin, Griphook, her mind supplied. Still in shock, Kya sat down absentmindedly until Griphook coughed to get her attention.

"Why have I been called here today?" she asked, dreading the answer. She didn't want any part in whatever scheme Dumbledore had this time.

"It is customary for every young witch or wizard to get an inheritance test once they turn 15. Once you turn 15, you are allowed to become emancipated and take up any lordships, assuming that they aren't already taken. Surly, your magical guardian informed you of this?" the goblin explained, eyes furrowing when Kya shook her head no.

"What is a magical guardian?" Kya asked. She knew there were a lot of things she was kept unaware of. She just didn't realize how bad it truly was.

"A magical guardian is an someone appointed to muggleborn, muggle raised, and orphaned children. They are supposed to introduce them into the wizarding world and protect them until the young witch or wizard meet their majority." Silence encompassed the two for a few moments before Kya decided to ask the question on her mind.

   "Who's mine?"

   "Albus Dumbledore, albeit illegally."
