To his dismay and further humiliation, Sebastian and MC had insisted on keeping Ominis under observation for at least fifteen minutes; too afraid of the possibility of a concussion. He was forced to sit in an old, rustic, and barely durable chair that reeked of spider droppings until he could be assessed by two wizards that had no idea of what they were doing.

MC had been hinting at the possibility of sending the boys back to the castle by themselves, so he could be seen by a nurse.

- How are you feeling?

He felt a hand caress his cheek, and had it not been for his embarrassment, he could marvel at the feeling of it. She was surprisingly gentle, a trait that had taken him by surprise months ago since she was all sharp edges and killing instinct.

The texture of her was full of calluses and the gritty sensation of the sand and ash between her fingers. The constant fights and furious hold on her wand during battles had taken away the sweet quality most teenage girls took for granted.

Yet for Ominis, she wasn't lacking. He loved all of her.

- I am ok – he smiled-. You two need to stop fuzzing.

Sebastian was sitting on top of a table, still burying his nose in manuscripts. He looked at Ominis through his eyelashes and scoffed at his remark. His friend was trying to look cool in front of his girlfriend, but his demeanor glowed whenever she would show concern for him, successfully destroying the facade.

- You passed out, Ominis – his tone almost held an accusation.

- I don't feel any discomfort.

He was lying, of course. Ever since he woke up, a headache had taken hold of him and would occasionally make him feel dizzy.

- Just the same – MC crouched next to his chair-. Please, Ominis. Go back to the castle and let the nurses look at you. Sebastian will go with you.

The mentioned arched an eyebrow and that statement. MC noticed.

- Don't look at me like that – her hand was drawing circles on Ominis' knee to soothe him-. This is a poacher's lair. There is nothing here for you to discover.

- You don't know that! – He tossed the papers on the floor with purpose. He knew she hated it when he was messy for no reason. – And we are not leaving you here on your own.

- So stubborn – she crumpled her nose at the papers littered on the floor.

Ominis put his hand over her hand to stop the movements. He was thriving under her attention -in more ways than one- but she was becoming too overprotective for his ego to admit it.

- He is right. I assure you, I am perfectly capable of continuing.

To prove his point, Ominis stood up from the chair and was relieved not to feel any dizziness. He offered his hand to help her stand up, and she accepted it gladly with a quiet smile.

Sebastian was walking toward them and witnessed the banal, but tender gesture. Not of him helping her, but of her accepting said help.

Whenever they were on their own, inside the catacombs, or slaying goblins, MC would sustain injuries that would make a grown man faint. But she would never show any vulnerability in front of Sebastian, nor accept his help or sympathy. But in a moment of self-awareness, he realized that he wasn't one to offer either.

But she was a different kind of creature to Ominis, and Sebastian resented them and himself for it.

- Are you sure?

MC picked a small satchel from the floor full of Wiggenweld potions and random scrolls she had picked on her way in.

- Yes – his wand activated instantly-. I just hope that was the last of the spiders.
