Dr Banner introduced himself like I had no idea who he was. Like he wasn't one of the most famous people in the world. Like Bucky hadn't just brought me to the fucking Avengers compound.Tony Stark was at my bedside, begrudgingly, and it was clear that he didn't want me here.
The blonde guy; the archer trudges through the automatic doors, "Good morning." He grunts, "This is for you, it's tea with sugar." Mumbling as he sets down a mug on the side. He looks grumpy, but I think thats just always his face.
Wait, did he say morning?
"Which morning?" I ask, sitting myself up in bed, eyes frantically scanning for my cell phone.
Deryn will freak the fuck out if I have missed a shift, and even more so because I didn't call.
Clint, narrows his eyes, "She's still concussed." He calls out.
The door slides open and Dr Banner enters smiling softly at me, "Good morning,"
God I wish people would stop reminding me. My stomach twists itself at the thought of letting Deryn down. This was such a great job, and I promised that if he took a chance on me, that I wouldn't let him down.
"Don't worry," Bruces hand clasps over the shakiness of mine, "Tony called the bar and explained what happened." Could he read minds?
"Hey Clove," Steve saunters through next, gently grinning at Clint as he leaves. His handsomeness never fails to make me stare, I feel blood rush to my cheeks because I know that I look like absolute shit. He sits down next to the bed like he has something important to say.
All I want to know is where Bucky is.
Steves lips press into a fine line; his eyes softening. "Bucky had to leave." Could he read minds too? My heart sank at his words. I wanted so badly to thank him, it was going to be my way in to ask him out. "I'll drive you back to the city." Steve tells me.
Now, if I had thought that Steve Rogers was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen it was only because I hadn't met Natasha Romanoff.
Her blazing red hair immediately catching my eye as she sashayed into the room, in her hands she had a small pile of folded clothes.
"Clover, I like it..." She said, her voice thick and husky, "I have some of your things here, I hope you don't mind but I broke in to your apartment." She said nonchalantly. Like it was the most normal thing in the world to do.
"I do actually... I mind." I say.
Natasha shrugs, "I had to make sure no one was there waiting, and Bucky suggested I grab some things for you."
Jesus fucking christ! Bucky was in my apartment too? I'm not even sure when I last cleaned. God, he'll think I'm a slob. I mean I am... but I don't want him to know that.
Steve encourages me to take a shower in Natasha's room. I really want to wash my hair but where Dr Banner glued my head has to stay dry for at least a week. Once I come out of the shower I quickly braid my hair, it'll have to do.
Wandering through the halls of the compound following the scent of coffee. My dirty clothes held tightly in my arms, I find my way to the kitchen. How the hell have I ended up here?
The kitchen is filled with faces I know and faces I don't. It kinda has me a little star struck, and feeling overwhelmed. Natasha walks towards me with a twisted smile on her face, almost as though she is on the verge of laughing. It kinda makes me uncomfortable.
I look to Steve, the only face I can trust right now.
"I think I want to go home." My words come out in a trembling string. He nods, getting to his feet.
