And so it begins

So this was where my story began. On the run from someone. I was a hero where I came from, and unfortunately, that meant I had made some enemies along the way.

In a world full of choices, in this moment, I felt like I only had one. I felt like my only choice was to leave this world behind.

In reality, I didn't really care that much that I had to leave. After all, there were other people on my Earth that could help protect everyone, and, I didn't really have anyone.

I used to have people that I loved, people that I cared about, but I didn't now. I didn't have that anymore. Along the way, I lost everyone. Friends, family. Slowly, but surely, I watched them all either die, or leave. So, it felt like I had nothing, no one, to care about.

So in the end, it didn't matter if I had to leave, not really. Because, really, it felt like all I was leaving behind was a painful past that I was running from. So, maybe I didn't really care.

Moments ago, I had gone through a breach that I had created, and I was now on a foreign Earth. I looked around, seeing everything pass by. Both familiar and unfamiliar faces passed by, appearing to not even notice the fact I was there.

What hurt most at that moment, was when I saw a woman that had looked like my mother. She had been killed by one of the metahumans I fought in the past, and seeing her face brought up all sorts of memories, good, and bad. The one the played most in my head was seeing her be killed, her body burning up before moments later, all that was left was a pile of ashes.

I shook my head, trying to clear it of the memory that wouldn't stop playing on loop in my head. It was one of my most painful memories, and it wasn't something I wanted to think about, now, or ever again. Of course, logically I knew that I would think of it again. After all, pain like that never really leaves you. I hoped someday that it would become easier, less painful. But most days, I didn't know if it would.

I walked around, a backpack on my shoulders, trying to find out where to go from here. After all, this was a strange world where I didn't know anyone. Yes there were familiar faces, but they weren't the people that I knew from my Earth, I knew that. As painful as that truth was, it was just that, the truth.

I wandered for what felt like hours. Although given how big this city was, I may have been walking around for hours. After all that walking, however, I came up to a large building, that was blocked off. It looked familiar, like a place I had been before, but I knew it wasn't that place, and I knew it wasn't full of the people I knew.

I looked over at the sign, stating where I was. I knew it wasn't my home, but it seemed like it. I read the sign out loud, "Star Labs." I said.
