Chapter 7: Meet the Housemates

As the other students leave to check out their homes, Desmon stays behind so he can talk with Garnet.

Garnet sits on the table in front of Desmon. "Garnet, why did you attack Matthew?" Desmon asks her.

Garnet puts her head down. "I... I don't know, I don't like how he harassed you in front of so many people." Garnet says sadly.

"It's okay Garnet, I know you were only trying to help me," Desmon says as he pets Garnet's feathers.

"Excuse me..." A female voice says behind Desmon.

As Desmon looks behind him he sees Ms. Kyra. "Oh, may I help you miss?" Desmon asks.

"Ms. Kyra, I'm your English teacher." Ms. Kyra says happily.

"Oh is there something you needed Ms. Kyra?" Desmon asks.

"Um, yes... I was wondering how long you've been with your familiar, you two act as if you've both been together for years." Ms. Kyra asks.

"Actually I found her like a little over a week ago," Desmon says nervously.

"Really! Only a week! That's a very impressive young man!" Ms. Kyra says shocked.

"Oh thank... thank you..." Desmon says blushing.

"Oh I'm sorry I've got to go, you should head for the homestead and find out who you're housing with." Ms. Kyra says.

Desmon jumps up and rushes for the door with Garnet behind him "Oh crap you're right! Um... bye Ms. Kyra I'll see you in class tomorrow!" Desmon says rushing off.

'Heh... he's a cute one.' Ms. Kyra thinks giggling.

As Desmon is rushing out of the school he bumps into Maxine who lands on top of him.

"Desmon!" shouts Maxine surprised.

"Maxine? Oh, I'm sorry!" Desmon says letting her up before standing himself.

"So which housing are you gonna be in?" Desmon asks.

"I'll explain as I walk you to yours ok?" Maxine smiles.

"Ok, let's go then," Desmon replies as Garnet lands on his shoulder, falling asleep as they start walking towards Desmon's housing.

"Ok so, my parents paid the school to let me live with whoever could 'protect' me as long as it wasn't 'Mr. Drake'. The school asked them if you have ever done anything to me before. Do you want to hear their response? I can skip it if you like," Maxine explains.

Looking a bit upset, Desmon answers, "Go for it."

"Ok, their reply was that you would take advantage of me because I have such a high standing in Arcadia," Maxine answers.

"Why do your parents hate me so much?" Desmon asks.

"I have no idea Desmon, anyway the lady who pulled me aside was doing so to inform me of my parent's decision as well as to protect me from you. I asked her why and she told me my parents' reasons. I then went to the Archmage and explained the truth to them. They also said I could stay with you and your housemates if I wanted to and well I want to. I'm going to make up for all the years I couldn't be your friend starting with this if that's ok," Maxine rambles.

"I'm cool with that, but let's just hope your parents don't find out... I kinda don't want to end up stuffed in your mother's hunting lodge," Desmon replies lightly laughing.

"Yeah, though I'd still come and see you even then... maybe find you some better clothes too," Maxine said giggling.

With that, Desmon and Garnet exit the dining hall, walking towards the bridge and looking back at the academy one more time.
