Koushi Sugawara nodded and laughed, not really understanding your humor but enjoying it nonetheless. Suga had awkwardly made a half heart in response to the camera, and you completed it cheerily.
You 'oohed' and 'aahed' at the pictures and analyzed your facial features. You furrowed your eyebrows and decided you looked good. "Do I have your permission to post these on my stories, Sugawara?" You sweetly asked. You were too busy looking at your phone, so you were completely ignorant of Sugawara's body language. You just heard a mumbled, "uh yeah sure." And so you happily grinned and posted the one selfie of you and the heart one with Sugawara, captioning it, "IM SO ATTRACTIVE 😇🔥 THINK IM GOING TO EXPLODE 😱💨 also erm... @suga.koushi". You put the song Cologne as background music, and you looked up from your phone to thumbs-up your upperclassman. You were immediately greeted by a distraught face.
"Koushi, what's wrong?" You bit your lip. You were so worried you forgot about formalities even though you knew Sugawara certainly didn't really care for them.
Sugawara rubbed his eyes, trying to rid any evidence of his sorrow, but you already recognized he was riddled with anguish. "C'mon, tell me," you mumbled, kneeling down to reach his level. The boy sat on the floor and shook his head, averting his gaze from yours. "It's stupid," he exasperatedly sighed. You gave him a warm smile, knowing he could see it from the corner of his eye.
Without a second thought, you whispered, "Tell me what it is, and I'll tell you if it's actually stupid." He greeted your eyes with his own and allowed himself to falter to your words and smile.
"I'm just... well... your brother is so much better than me at volleyball, and I just want to keep playing," he stated.
"PFFT, omg, Tobio sucks," you laughed. You loved bullying your brother and never would miss an opportunity to do so. Thing is, only you were allowed to bully him, you could remember a certain setter enjoying teasing your brother all the time in middle school. No need to think about him right now.
You ruffled his hair endearingly, "If we're talking about technique, yeah... He's amazing. But trust me, no one understands our players better than you, senpai."
The setter's eyes lighted up, and his ill mood dissipated. You sat down beside him on the ground, leaning your backs against the school wall.
"Hmm, let me like your story with me in it! I'll repost it to show everyone my amazing friend," he said, pulling his phone out of his pocket. You took joy in how easily you ridded your crush of his worries, yet your heart slammed against your esophagus and went back to its usual spot when it heard 'amazing friend'.
