Jamie climbed up the fire escape to the floor Sam and Dean were on, sitting on the stairs and waiting for one of the brothers to open the window. He overheard some muffled conversation as he tapped on his knees.
"Everything was in perfect condition—except Meredith." The landlord said, explaining the situation to Sam and Dean as they were dressed as employees from the building's alarm system company.
"And what condition was Meredith in?" Sam asked, discreetly unlocking the window as Dean looked around.
"Meredith was all over. In pieces. The guy who killed her must have been some kind of a whackjob. But I tell you, if I didn't know any better, I'd have said a wild animal did it."
"Ma'am, do you mind if we take some time, give this place a once-over?"
"Go right ahead. Knock yourself out." The landlord walked out, Sam opened the window and let Jamie in.
Jamie's foot got caught on the windowsill and stumbled a little on his way in, catching the attention of his older brothers, both staring at him with uncertainty until he steadied himself.
Dean opens his toolbox and takes out an EMF meter, "So, a killer walks in and out of the apartment—no weapons, no prints, nothin'."
"I'm tellin' ya, the minute I found that article, I knew this was our kind of gig." Sam states, the EMF meter beeps frantically.
"I think I agree with you." Dean starts walking around, directed by the compass-like meter.
"So, you talked to the cops?" Jamie asked Dean, following him around the apartment.
"Uh, yeah. I spoke to Amy, a, uh, charming, perky officer of the law." Dean smirked.
Sam starts investigating on the other side of the room, "Yeah? What'd you find out?"
"Well, she's a Sagittarius. She loves tequila, I mean—wow. Oh, and she's got this little tattoo—"
"Dean!" Sam and Jamie scolded in unison.
"What? Yeah. Uh, nothin' we don't already know. Except for one thing they're keepin' out of the papers."
"What?" Jamie asked.
"Meredith's heart was missing."
"Her heart?" Sam asked unbelieving.
"Yeah. Her heart."
"So, what do you think did it to her?" The three brothers regroup in the middle of the room.
"Well, the landlady said it looked like an animal attack. Maybe it was—werewolf?"
"No, no werewolf, the lunar cycle's not right." Sam denies, "Plus, if it was a creature, it would've left some kind of trace. It's probably a spirit."
Dean observes the blood on the carpet and comes to a realization, "See if you can find any masking tape around." He directs to Jamie.
Scott wanders to find some tape in a drawer and Dean uses it to connect each pool of blood, when he's done, the pieces of tape form an unusual symbol.
