Chapter 13
The only reason Dream realised George's birthday was on Sunday, was because tomorrow was Halloween. This month has gone too fast and he was shocked that it was already nearly November. The wedding was getting closer too, since Sapnap and Karl picked out early December to get married. Something about wanting their honeymoon to be in winter.
But with the discovery that halloween was tomorrow, and the consequent realisation George's birthday was Sunday, came the panic that Dream should probably get George a birthday present. But what exactly do you buy someone who is your... friend? Ex? Some other label that hasn't been invented to describe them? Especially when you're barely apart of their life, and don't know exactly how you fit in, or where you should be, or how much you need to take a step back by.
"You bought him something already!" Dream flailed his hands around at Sapnap and Karl, who were sitting peacefully on the couch until Dream entered the room and expressed his panic.
"Well, yes. It's on Sunday." Sapnap said, in an obvious tone.
"And you didn't tell me! We could have split on the present! Let me chip in, come on. Say it's from all three of us. Please." Dream begged.
"You want to be part of our gift to George?" Karl raised an eyebrow.
"Yes."
"Are you sure?" Sapnap asked, stifling a laugh.
"I have no other option. Just let me know how much I owe you and add my name to your card." Dream said desperately.
"Oh, sure." Karl snorted.
"We'll tell him you picked out the sex shop." Sapnap grinned.
Dream blinked, staring at them both. Did he hear them correctly? There's no way they just-
"Did you say sex shop?" Dream spluttered.
"Well he's a single man who gets no action and doesn't get out because of his kid. We got him a voucher to buy something-"
"Oh my god." Dream covered his ears, blushing furiously. "What the fuck."
"Dude. You dated the guy, you of all people-"
"Stop!" Dream shouted, waving his hands around. "No no. I don't want in on this. Do NOT write my name on that card."
"I thought you were desperate." Karl tried to hide his laughter.
"I'd rather not buy my ex-boyfriend a voucher to a sex shop. Oh my god." Dream shook his head furiously, shutting his eyes. "That's the weirdest thing anyone could do."
"Well you asked us."
"You guys are freaks. George will hate it."
"Well, he's been single for four years so I don't think he'd despise-"
"He's been single for four years?" Dream asked, taken aback. Karl and Sapnap looked at each other, then back at Dream.
"Uh... yes?"
"He never- with anyone..." Dream shook his head. "Whatever. None of my business."
"Right. Well, that's not the only thing we got him." Karl said, switching the conversation. "Also bought him a dress for Lana for the wedding. Although, in hindsight, that sounds like more of a present for her."
"Well, he was stressed about it so I think it is partly a present for him." Sapnap shrugged.
"What do I get him then?" Dream interrupted.
"I don't know." Sapnap shrugged. "Something he'd like."
"Oh, really helpful Sapnap." Dream glared at him. "I don't even know what he likes anymore! Do I even get him a present or is that weird? We only just made up, not to mention the four years of not speaking."
