'Am I doing this right?' I thought silently as I put the helmet on Hinami's head making sure it was in place before moving her arms to wrap around my waist. I waved to the people at Anteiku who decided to wait for Touka to arrive to tell her what had happened yesterday before leaving. I quietly started the motor as it purred to life before I drove away, making sure to remain at a safe speed in every way possible as we started to slow down, having had made our way to my apartment. My fingers quickly undid the straps on her helmet before pulling Hinami toward me moving her head to nuzzle into my shoulder as I grabbed the small bag of books we had managed to take from Anteiku along with the one Kaneki had brought for her earlier before we had left in hopes of making her feel better.
"Onee-chan." Hinami muttered in her sleep causing a sad smile to appear on my face as I kissed her forehead before grabbing my keys from the bike and making my way way up the stairs to my apartment. Shifting her slightly I was able to quickly put the key in the lock allowing me to open the door. I moved smoothly as I took my shoes off along with Hinami's before moving along into the guest room that I would soon make into Hinami's room. I sat on the edge of the bed before moving the soft grey sheets away and positioning the small girls head on them making sure she was comfortable before moving the sheets from under her legs. I smiled at her sleeping face my thumb brushing against the dark bags under her eyes from lack of sleep. I was happy that she was finally asleep, the poor girl needed it or else she wouldn't get better.
"Good night Hinami." I whispered before kissing her forehead and tucking her into the sheets. She made a slight groan at this but continued sleeping as I left the room, closing the door behind me with a soft click. I let out a loud sigh as I headed to my own bedroom, and quickly changing into a pair of comfortable pajamas before pulling out my laptop and logging on as I took a seat at my desk.
'Just because I called in doesn't mean that I'm not going to work' I thought as I began to edit the report from the higher up, making sure that everything was grammatically correct before sending it to the said higher ups email. I waited patiently before my laptop signaled that it had actually gone through before closing the device.
'It seems like that was the only thing I had to do today.' I thought silently before putting the laptop away and pulling out my sketchbook. My fingers quickly flipped the pages to a clean one as I got my camera out and going to the picture I had taken of Ryouko and Hinami right before they had left that disastrous day.
My limbs grew a mind of their own as they grabbed a pencil and began the sketch. The basic shapes of the pairs body and items, followed by the eradication of stray marks and the lines that weren't needed anymore. I checked it quickly making sure it was up to my standards before continuing. The soft white paper beginning to grow darker as the shapes of two people began to appear, the way their lips drew up in a smile and how their eyes seemed to sparkle as more detail was drawn in. The way their clothes had wrinkled and darkened with soft shadows, the light shining off their honey hair, and just how... alive... they were in the picture compared to how they were now. I let out a sigh as I liked toward the small alarm clock on my nightstand noticing with quiet shock that it was 10:38 p.m. and that I had work tomorrow. That is after I dropped Hinami off at Anteiku so that she wouldn't be home alone since my colleagues were still looking for her. I let out a loud groan as I looked at my finished work, tears came to my eyes at the sight of it as my hands made the motion to rip it out before they were stopped by a much smaller set.
"Did you... draw this?" Hinami asked quietly as she looked at the picture her eyes glued to her mothers face as I nodded. My hands moved slower this time as I gently ripped the paper free from the book before handing it to the small girl. She looked up at me slightly from where she stood her hands lightly holding the paper as if she feared that if she held it any tighter it would burst into flames.
"Thank you Kichi-chan." She whispered softly and I could tell that if she hadn't had already cried all she could that she would be crying right now. I cautiously wrapped my arms around her small figure as she hiccuped into my shoulder. Releasing her from my hold my fingers carefully took the picture from her hands before putting it on the desk and picking the small girl up. My body slowly got up, making sure not to drop her before moving to my own bed and pulling her beside me. Hinami let out a small hiccup before wariness overtook her.
"Good night Hinami." I whispered softly a small smile on my face as my own gold eyes closed.
--Next day--
I woke up to the sound of my alarm blaring causing my eyes to snap open before I noticed the small girl curled up into my body. Hinami was still asleep somehow, small snores coming from her as she slept peacefully. I slowly got out making sure not to wake her just yet as I got ready putting on my nice white dress shirt, a nice navy jacket with a white dragon stitched into the breast pocket, a even nicer pair of navy pants with faint gleams of silver thread in it. I sighed as I straightened myself out making sure everything was in order before beginning to cook some "bacon" for us both to eat as I began preparing my human food to eat along with putting my pills on the counter. I looked at the cooking meat deciding that I had enough time to prepare Hinami for her stay at Anteiku while I was at work so they would be able to watch her for me.
"Hinami-chan it's time to get ready." I said, softly shaking her shoulder causing her to let out a soft moan before her eyes to open before closing again due to the bright light. I let out another sigh as I pulled her upwards into a sitting position before leaving her my nose telling me that the food was done.
I moved elegantly in the kitchen as I moved the meat onto a paper towel covered plate before moving some of the sausages onto the cutting board and cutting them into tiny octopus before putting them next to the rice that was already in the box. I twirled the knife noticing the tired form of Hinami in the doorway of my room as she watched me. My body moved to the fridge as I grabbed some tamagoyaki, edamame, and cherry tomatoes to add color and normality to the box before placing my chopsticks in the small slot on the outside of it. The soft sound of small sniffs were easily heard in the quiet as I grabbed another plate down from one of my cabinets before placing some of the "bacon" on it, Hinami made a few more of her quiet sniffs before cautiously taking a bite of it.
"Tastes good." She murmured softly after finishing the small bite she had taken before finishing the rest of the plate. Her reaction caused a smile to appear on my face as I ate my own breakfast before grabbing both Hinami's and my own items. Giving the keys to the small girl as I made my way to our ride. Hinami sat down first getting comfortable with her books in front of her, I took my seat behind her putting the key inside the bike and starting it. It roared to life as I leaned forward and began making our way to Anteiku.
"Hello Hinami, Kichi." Yoshimura said as Hinami got off, heading toward the older male who waved good bye to me before guiding the younger girl into the shop and into the room on the second level. I smiled at their retreating figures before heading to work.
