"What? ..no, Shu's with me, we just got back from America. What do you mean his parents..."

Ten years old Shu stopped reading his book and went over to his mother after hearing her concerned and worried voice, receiving news from someone via call.

"Does that mean the kids are alright? Oh poor boy, I hope he's okay.. Okay, thank you Oyo, I'll pick him up from the orphanage."

"What happened, mama?" Shu looked up at his mother with glistening eyes, his purple eyes widening waiting for an answer.

"There was a fire accident in your auntie's neighbourhood. She.. didn't survive.."

Although Shu and Mysta weren't related, he always felt close to him and felt like the brit was just like a brother like he is to him. Besides, his mother is friends with his mama.

Shu felt sad at the news, even though he was just a young child, he was a prodigy and was known for his extended intelligence at his age. He knew it was bad news.

"Is Mysta alright?"

"He's been living in an orphanage near their neighbourhood for almost two years now. Most of the kids whose parents are gone live there now."

"Can we go visit him?" Shu suggested. His eyes then widened at an idea he just magically came up with. "We can take him in! I'm fine with having Mysta as my brother,"

His mother placed a hand over her chest, in awe of his idea. "You're such a genius Shu, who did you take after?" She chuckled as she pinched his cheeks earning an adorable smile from her son.

"I got it from mama of course!"

"Oh what did I do to deserve you?" his mother awed. "Get ready, we're going to be picking up Mysta."

"Okay!"

Shu and his mother arrived at the orphanage. It wasn't rundown yet it wasn't luxurious either, it was perfectly in between as it has a spacious garden in the front, a playground and a greenhouse.

He entered the building with his mother, it was rather spacious inside and it was very neat too.

"Hello!" A girl greeted the two as they step foot inside. "I'm Y/n, second oldest in here. Are you looking for miss Lea?"

Shu's mother nodded making the girl guide them to the madam's office.

"Thank you, Y/n."

. . .

. .

"Hey, what's your name?" Y/n started a conversation with the boy as they were not allowed in due to adult talk.

Looking up from the thick book he brought along for him to read, Shu closed it to signal he has his full attention to her. "I'm Shu."

"Why are you here?"

"My mama and I are going to take in my cousin, he's going to be my brother now."

Y/n's smile then fell but she quickly picked it back up to play her cheery self. "That's nice! I'm glad he's leaving with people he knows and loves. Can you tell me his name? I probably know him!"

"Mysta Rias."

"Oh, mysterious detective fox! He's so fun to be with, I really like him. It's sad to know he's leaving the orphanage but I'm happy for him!"

But in her eyes Shu could see she was sad.

"What happened to your parents..? You don't have to answer if you want."

"There was a meeting in our neighbourhood's Hall and one of each parents were supposed to be present." Y/n's shoulder dropped when she recalled that day. "My dad had to go since our mom left a long time ago so it's just me with my brother."

"Oh.." Shu didn't know what to say. "Is your brother with you?"

"Yup! They're kind enough not to let anyone take him without me. Kyo's the only family I have left.."

"How old is he?"

"Three."

"Nee-chan, I'm five!" A short blue haired boy exclaimed.

"Kyo-channnn~" His sister got off her seat to hug her brother and pat his head.

While Y/n was showing him affection, Kyo was glaring at Shu. "Nee-chan, who's this? He looks like that fox boy!"

Shu got off his seat as well and extended his hand. "I'm Shu Yamino. Your sister and I just became friends." Seeing as Kyo didn't accept his hand, Shu his hand back awkwardly.

Later, his mother got out the office with Mysta next to her side, the brit grinned at the sight of the ravenette. "Shu!" He rushed over to give him a hug.

"Their eyes are the same," Kyo whispered to Y/n. "It's pretty." He didn't want to admit it loudly, he was shy.

Y/n only smiled. She had taught him to be open with his (nice) opinions but since he whispered, it's a work in progress.

"Y/n!" Mysta's eyes begin to water. "I'll miss you! You've been my best friend ever!"

"Hehe, I'll miss you too detective fox!"

Shu watched the two exchange goodbyes when he waited near the front door. Mysta was crying, Y/n only smiled as she hoped the best for him.

Shu tugged the hem of his mother's coat. "Mama, why does Y/n look happy Mysta's leaving?"

"It could probably be because she's happy he found a home." His mother looked at the girl, feeling her heart flutter. "She's such a sweet girl, I hope a family takes her in and love her along with her brother."

Shu looked at the girl again. "Mhm, I hope so too."
