"What happened after the party was a mistake.""It never should have happened."
"Whatever is happening between us can't go past friendship."
It had been a week since me and TJ patched things up between us. Things were slowly going back to normal. It's funny, though, we fixed things between us, but I've never felt more disconnected from him. On days like this, I would find TJ hanging around my locker, that sly smirk on his face as we walked to class together. Now he's always busy hanging with his basketball buddies or with Kira. We're back to being friends, but is this how friends were?
"Earth to Cyrus," Buffy waved a hand in my face, snapping me out of the trance I seemed to put myself in. "You totally haven't answered our question," She's eyeing me curiously. I turn to Andi, who's doing the same.
I shake my head. "I'm sorry, I guess I just zoned out," I explain, earning a glare from Buffy and a scoff from Andi.
"We were thinking of going to the movies this weekend and then having a sleepover at mine. Bex is making cookies," She says as if I needed much coercion.
A small smile found its way onto my lips. "Of course, guys sounds great," I say truthfully. It would be my first time hanging out with them after school. I never would've thought I'd have friends, let alone two best friends, that would want to deal with me after school. Lunch went on as we carried out our conversation about nothing in particular.
Once the bell rang, I waved goodbye, and we all went our separate ways. On my way to my locker, I was greeted with a familiar face.
"How's it hanging, Wallflower?" Marty is leaning back on the locker next to mine. Seeing him here is strange since I rarely see him around school. He's like some sort of ninja, able to vanish out of thin air. Sometimes I wish I had the same ability.
"Marty from the party. Things are still as bleak as ever," I greet with equal enthusiasm.
He rolls his eyes. "Please stop calling me that. It's incredibly lame," He says, a smile playing on his lips.
"It has a nice ring to it. I think rhymes are pretty cool," I open my locker placing my bag inside. I grab my science book and hear Marty chuckle.
"I don't know what kind of world you live in, but in this one, rhymes are the epitome of lame," He says, earning a chuckle of my own.
"This is coming from the guy that claims every party needs a wallflower," I bite back playfully. Marty has a fake hurt expression on his face. I close my locker, walking past Marty, who follows me, dramatically dragging his feet as he walks.
"You've wounded me, Cyrus. Not only have you dissed my golden rule, but you've done incredible damage to my ego," He says, sighing dramatically.
I roll my eyes. "Oh please, I'm sure it'll take more than that to bruise the massive ego you have." I see him pouting as he continues to act like I've done the most horrific act known to man. Walking with Marty was something I never expected, but it was a very welcome change. Something about being around him was... refreshing.
"There's only one thing you can do to make it up to me," He says, stopping to stand in front of me.
I eye him curiously. "And what would that be?" I raise a brow.
He puckers his lips. "Kiss me," He says seriously.
I almost immediately push his face away. "In your dreams, there's no way I'd ever do something so revolting. That would damage my own ego," I say with a laugh, earning one from Marty.
