Sirens. Captivating, forming into your deepest desire.

Vile creatures. Tempting, beckoning their victims into the calm waves, and dragging them into the darkness of the vast ocean. All of this with a harmonic melody that hypnotizes and numbs the thoughts of every mortal.

Mortality is what sirens crave. They envy the short-living, and so they take the lives of those in the hopes that they will one day reach their ending . . .

Chief Justice Neuvillette is conflicted. In the entirety of the time he had been fulfilling his duties in Fontaine, never had he seen such a prolonged mystery. Sirens, presumably mythological creatures, were suddenly appearing around the nations of Teyvat. Had they been in Teyvat all this time, yet remained hidden? Or was it that the Abyss had something to do with the rising numbers?

Bodies were washing up by the shore, and deaths were only increasing by the second. Seashores had been closed off, alas, even those attempts proved to be futile against the sirens' melody echoing in the quiet solitude of night.

Windows, doors, and cracks within walls were stuffed with anything available to absorb the resonating songs that would paralyze oneself the second it reached their ears.

This could not last for long. With citizens prevented from going outside once the sun fell beyond the horizon, and the Opera Epiclese closed to the public due to the fear of a siren potentially posing as a human and daring to perform that dreaded repertoire in front of innocent people, it was a threat to Fontainians.

Only those immortal had been immune to the tantalizing sirens. . . or so it had seemed.

Neuvillette had evidently took it upon himself to solve this harrowing crisis, awaiting the sun's descent from the sky.

He was reviewing trial documents from the trials held recently, his concentration unbreakable. His eyes trailed down the paper, skimming over it with certainty. He may have looked focused on the document, but his thoughts were jumbled, disturbed by the recent drownings.

Suddenly, his racing mind came to a halt, now attentive to the voice that rang. "Monsieur? It is nearly past dusk. I thought I'd let you know." Neuvillette's assistant notified, a creaking of the door reverberating throughout the office.

Neuvillette looked up at his assistant, expressionless as per usual. "Ah, I suppose I was caught up in my work. Thank you for letting me know. I shall depart soon."

"Yes, yes," the assistant nodded, an unsure look on their face. "Forgive me for questioning, but are you sure that the sirens will not harm you? I mean, they are dangerous, as we have seen." They asked, very expressive with their concern and worry for the Chief Justice.

Acknowledging the worry, Neuvillette reassured his assistant, "Do not fear for me, as I have done my research. I would not put myself in harm's way if I did not know the dangers."
