I saw the knife in front of my face, and with my pounding headache, all I could do was work off of instincts. I knew the guy was on top of me based on the weight I felt on my chest and the angle of the knife. My arms were pinned down by his knees, and he had his ankles wrapped around my thighs, so I couldn't use my legs either. This guy was glaring down at me, and I could feel a few other people in the room. I took a deep breath, causing the guy to lean closer, the kunai now cutting into my throat, and, leading with my shoulder, I rolled over as hard as I could, throwing the guy off of me and getting to my feet. Almost immediately, I was engaged in battle by three men.
My body was till in a lot of pain, but I didn't really feel like dying again so soon, so I fought tooth and nail while another guy I could see in my peripheral just stood and watched. I watched every single one of my opponents moves, but was working largely off of instinct and intuition as the fight went on. I was looking to incapacitate rather than kill, but these guys were tight, barely leaving any opening for me to exploit. it seemed the battle would go on forever, but then I knocked out the first guy, the one that had been holding the kunai to my neck, and there were suddenly a lot more openings.
It only took maybe fifteen more minutes for me to knock out the other two guys, but then I heard the fourth guy clap, slowly and sarcastically. "Well done. You knocked out three of my best men, but now you've got to deal with me." He threw off his ridiculous looking hat and robe, then immediately started to attack me. I groaned internally as it felt like my body was on fire and for some reason my eyes felt itchy, but continued to fight him, blocking his blows as I tried to analyze his fighting style for openings and weaknesses, but then I noticed something strange.
the shadows around us seemed to be moving, and not in a normal "The wind is blowing the tree branches around" kind of way, but almost as if they were closing in on us, dark, translucent tendrils looking to suffocate. suddenly, they attached to my shadow, and I felt that second wind that I often get in the third round of a championship. The guy in front of me, who my brain was telling me was the third Mizukage, in my brothers voice nonetheless, seemed not only shocked, but terrified. I didn't know what a Mizukage was, but my brain helpfully supplied the word Shogun, so there was that.
"How are you doing this?" he asked as he aimed a punch for my head. I was about to tell him that I wasn't doing anything, but then the shadows leaped out, wrapping around his neck. "Don't worry," the shadows seemed to say, causing me to leap almost out of my skin. "This man will not stop you from achieving your destiny, we will make sure of that." I could only watch in abject horror as the life bled out of the Mizukage's eyes, and then the door burst open and in came two people, both holding rather large swords.
They seemed shocked as they took in the scene, their eyes lingering on the dead Mizukage. then the smaller of the two, who had silvery white hair and bandages hanging loosely around his neck, fell to his knees, exclaiming, "Lairde Mizukage!" the larger of the two, with orange hair and green markings on his face reluctantly following his lead.
I immediately started to freak out waving my hands around. "No no no, you must be confused! I didn't mean to kill him and I'm not even all that into politics! This is all just a big misunderstanding! I don't even know any of you, I've never even been here, I have no knowledge on how to run this place or-!" I was cut short as the white haired man started to laugh. I stopped in my tracks and took a deep breath. Both of the men stood up, and he smiled at me.
"The good news about that, Lairde Mizukage, is that even if you didn't mean to kill him, the fact that you were able to beat him makes you a candidate for Mizukage, we can make introductions, show you around the place, being Mizukage is basically learning on your feet for everyone, and politics is whatever you want it to be!" He placed a hand on my shoulder, and I took a deep breath, nodding.
"Okay, well I'm (l/n) (Y/n), I hope we can work well together." I gave him a nervous smile, which seemed to make him smile wider as the larger man handed him the hat and robe that the Mizukage had been wearing. He gently placed the hat on my head, and slung the robe onto my shoulders.
"I'm Mangetsu Hōzuki, one of the seven ninja swords men of the mist. I wield Kubikiribōchō." he showed me his large blade, which was taller than I was with a notch at the top and two holes along the center. "And this is my team mate, Fuguki Suikazan, who wields Samehada." Fuguki didn't show me his blade, but it seemed to be wrapped up in bandages.
Mangetsu grabbed my hand, then led me over to a balcony that overlooked Kirigakure. "This is the village that you are meant to look over and protect. I'll show you around it later so you can learn all about it." I nodded taking another deep breath.
I looked at Mangetsu and sighed. "I will be honest with you, Mangestu, I have only been trained in taijutsu, and have no idea what was going on with the shadows." Taijutsu felt weird on my tongue, but I rolled with it, looking at the man nervously. Mangetsu just laughed again, shaking his head.
"That just makes you all the more impressive (Y/n). don't worry, I'll help you learn everything you need to know." Suikazan rolled his eyes and promptly left as the three guys I knocked out earlier started to wake up. "All that's really left, my Lairde, is to make an announcement to the republic to let them know we have our fourth Mizukage." I nodded my head, and the three men bowed to me, respect already shining in their eyes, and then carried the body of the previous Mizukage away, leaving me and Mangetsu to write to the public and ask them to gather.
