School had just finished for the day- the bell sounding out to notify everyone of their temporary freedom until the next morning. You try to listen to whatever the person on the other side of your phone call is saying, ignoring the rush of students in various directions around you.
"Watcha doin'?" A familiar voice engages in conversation with you.
"I'm on the phone, James."
"Who ya talkin to?"
"None of your business. Now get outta my face."
James will admit he was a little hurt by that, but nonetheless he persevered. "Come on~ who is it?" He's got a piece of your hair and is twirling it between his fingers, feeling how soft it is despite your frequent dye-jobs to match his own crimson locks.
"Just someone from school. A friend." You avoid eye contact, but your response is genuine. You're calling a friend to check upon her after she was not in school today.
"Whooooo? Who is it?" He whines now, bending down to meet your eye level.
"You wouldn't know her. You're in honours class after all, and she's barely passing fifth grade numeracy." You move your hand into James' face and eye-line, so James is now staring at your palm. "Plus I'm a year below you."
"Of course~ I'm so smart!" You roll your eyes and end the call with your friend.
"She's just faking sick, she's fine. Something about a concert she wanted to go to." You scoff, laughing at your friend's antics. You turn to James and say you've got to be somewhere. Spinning a full 180° again to leave the school ground's and go through the gates until he stops you.
"Well where are you going now?" His arms are crossed. He's a little annoyed, you'd promised that you would accompany him to the nearby cybercafé and play some online games with him, but now it seems you've bailed.
"I have to meet someone." You say, stepping around James and leaving the school grounds. "I'm still going to the cybercafé, I'll just be a few steps away from you. It'll be over in five minutes anyways." You reassure him as it's rare for you to bail on a hangout with James.
"Who? Who is it you're meeting? Do I know her?" He's adamant about knowing who this mystery person is.
"Her? It's a guy, James." You continue walking, completely oblivious to the completely crushing heartache you've just caused James.
"A guy? Like a man? Like me? Like someone with a dick?" He's speaking fast now, trying to catch up with you. He holds your shoulder and you stop, unable to be released from his grip. He used too much strength.
You stop and turn to face James. "Yes, is that a problem?" You're slightly annoyed now, James is always like this when you say you won't be with him. "I'll only be away from you for a few minutes, come on now."
After a few minutes of you walking with James following far behind you, observing your back and thinking about who you could be meeting and why you're meeting them. You both finally reach the cybercafé, with you a bit further in front of him, asking some staff if they'd seen a man that fit your description.
James is watching you speaking to the staff with a bright smile adorning your mellow features. He sees the staff nod and motion you to a private booth, you also nod and then thank them, offering them a tiny wave of gratitude. He wants to follow you and see who this mystery person is, so he silently walks after you and stands outside of the booth, trying to avoid being seen by both you and the staff.

"Did you wait long?" Your voice is a whisper directed to the man in front of you.
"No, it's all good. I just got here." The disembodied voice speaks and James can't help but notice the slight lisp in the man's voice.
