Lianna froze at the sound of Kyler's voice behind her. She turned around slowly to face him. He stood in the middle of her living room.
"I had a feeling you would come," Lianna said, trying to steady her voice.
"You really should listen to me when I give you warnings," Kyler said, a hint of amusement in his voice. "But I have to admit, you surprised me with your little stunt at the shipment. You thought you could outsmart us?"
"I had to do what was right," Lianna said, standing up straighter and trying to appear more confident than she felt.
Kyler stepped closer to her, his face only inches away from hers. "And what exactly is 'right', Lianna? Playing both sides? Running to the cops when it benefits you?"
Lianna held her ground, refusing to show any fear. "I did what I had to do to save my own life," she said.
Kyler laughed humorlessly. "Your life is worth nothing to me," he said. "But I do appreciate your talents. You have proven yourself useful to the organization. Perhaps we can come to some kind of agreement."
Lianna felt a glimmer of hope at his words. "What kind of agreement?
"You continue to work for me," Kyler said. "You use your skills , and in return, I won't kill you."
Lianna weighed her options carefully. Working for him mafia was dangerous and could lead her down a path she never wanted to go.But on the other hand, it was the only way to stay alive,and also it was rather beneficial she would get to know in depth about how the mafia works,all she had to do was to just play along .
"I'll do it," she said finally.
"We have a deal," he said.
As Kyler left her apartment, Lianna collapsed onto her couch, feeling defeated and trapped. She knew that her life would never be the same. But at least she had a chance to survive.
"One of my men will be there to pick you up tomorrow,so don't try to be oversmart this time,and one more thing i don't like people who are late for work so be ready at 7 am tomorrow"
His words lingered in my mind ,i thought about all the possible jobs he can make me do. And i would be lying if I said I wasn't scared.
