Memories

After I saw the picture, memories of William and me when we were younger started appearing. I missed him very much, and the memories made me feel nostalgic. It's been about 16 years since I last saw him. I never saw him again after the incident. 

"Father! Mother! I think we're here, the orphanage! I can see it!" Young Scarlet points out the window. 

"Now, Scarlet, you're excited but must calm down. You're close to falling in the window, my love." Father chuckles 

"Why are we going to the orphanage again, Father?"  Young Black asks in curiosity 

"It's the noble's duty to give donations to the poor. We also have a lot of things we don't need or use anymore; instead of throwing them away, we should give them away. Other people need what we don't use anymore." Father explains 

"That's right, if you want to be an excellent noble, donations such as these will show that you treat everyone equally. You might find some friends in the orphanage while we shower them with our blessings." Mother added. 

Young Black stays silent and sighs. He skipped his martial arts class for this, so he's not in a good mood. On the other hand, Scarlet was ecstatic to meet new friends. 

They have finally met their destination. The Elrod carriage stopped in front of the orphanage's gates and was greeted by the women working there. Mother and Father greeted back and took their donation boxes inside the building. 

As they entered, the children in the orphanage looked at the Elrod family with happiness and excitement as they saw the boxes they carried. Young Scarlet and Young Black helped distribute the toys, food, books, etc., to the orphanage's children.  

Young Scarlet took a box and roamed around the places in the house to make sure that everyone got a donation. She went to the back, and there she saw a boy with blonde hair and red eyes, with another boy who looked just like him. It appears that they were twins. 

The first boy she saw had bangs, and the other had none. The other looked paler than the first boy; she was curious about them and approached them carrying the box with her. 

"Hello there!" Young Scarlet greets them with a smile

The pale boy hid behind his brother, and the boy with the bangs just smiled back. 

"It's okay. I don't bite. My family and I brought donations for the orphanage. Would you like some? There are toys, food, books, and many other things. Oh, and I'm Scarlet,"  Young Scarlet says, smiling and showing them the box. 

"I see. It's alright, Louis, you can have some. She looks like a nice girl." The boy with the bangs says to his younger brother. 

Louis nods and takes some food and toys from the box. The elder brother then followed and took some books and some food. 

"T-Thank you.."  Louis whispered. 

"It's no problem if you want some more. My family is by the entrance of the orphanage. Well then, I'll go now to avoid disturbing you." Scarlet says, picking up the box and heading back inside the building. 

"Wait! Wait just a moment," The elder brother said. 

"Hm? What is it? Do you want more?"  Young Scarlet says, tilting her head. 

"Let's get to know each other; you're the first to approach us without hesitating. Especially when you don't even know us." The elder brother said.

"Oh, I see. I don't hesitate to talk to other people I don't know because I know they'll be nice to me as long as I'm nice to them. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."  Scarlet says. 

The elder brother looks at you with widened eyes. Scarlet tilts her head in confusion. 

"That's from the Bible, Luki 6:31." The elder brother says. 

"Oh yes, that's right! You're quite smart for a commoner. I like you!" Scarlet laughs. 

The elder boy's eyes widen again and blush. He gets caught off guard and thought of what to say next. "Thank you, Scarlet, for the compliment" is all that came out of his mouth. 

"Sorry I made you flustered. Anyways, that was my reason to approach you. Also, I have another question, will you be adopted soon? along with your brother?" Scarlet asks.

"I believe so. There was a young nobleman who came just a week before you. I have a feeling he will adopt us sooner or later." The elder brother says, smirking secretly. 

"Oh! Good for you both! If you do get adopted, tell me, okay? I'll visit! Hehe," Scarlet says, smiling.

The three continued chatting until dusk. They got close in one day, but after everything, Scarlet had to return with her family to attend to another matter. 

"Goodbye!! I'll see you again soon!!" Scarlet says to the two boys waving. 

"See you soon too, Scarlet!" The boys say back, smiling and waving Scarlet goodbye. 

"Will we see her again? She's very nice." Louis said, asking his brother. 

"Hm. We will, in the future." The elder says, reassuring Louis.
