-basically the dream team are animaguses but like not wizards? They can turn into animals idk (inspired by the thing on instagram yesterday)

Dream was stirring sugar into his coffee when George knocked. He knew it was George because his knock was light and swift.

"Come in!"

"Hey, love." George set his bags down and swiped a sip from Dream's mug. He grimaced. "Ugh, when will you drink tea instead of this rubbish?"

"Nevaa," Dream kissed his cheek and stole his coffee back. "How was your sister's?"

"Nice, but so isolated," George groaned. "I'm still a city boy at heart."

He set a kettle to boil. "Sapnaaaap?!"

"Can't hear you." Dream didn't lift his gaze from Twitter.

"Oh?" George sauntered over to the tank in one wall that housed a leafy seadragon chilling amongst live coral and seaweed. The seahorse was well-camouflaged with dozens of frills, but George quickly picked out its yellow-orange-stripes pattern hanging out towards the back of the tank in that unfazed calm that seahorses inhabit.

"Hellooo, I'm home." He tapped on the glass.

"He doesn't like when you do that," Dream commented.

The seahorse barely stirred, drifting to anchor its tail on another bit of coral.

"How long has he been in there?"

Dream took a long sip of coffee before answering. "A week."

"The whole week?! What the hell, Dream?!" George rushed to get a towel from the bathroom. "Please tell me you've fed him!"

"Of course, I'm not a monster. I just wanted to see if he'd come out on his own, and he hasn't." Dream made no move to help George as he spread out the towel on the ground.

"Oh my god, I can't believe you. Leaving him in there for a week," he muttered to himself as he dipped a hand in the water. "If he's mad, I'm not defending you."

Dream grunted uncaringly and George scooped out the obliging seahorse, setting it on the towel and standing back.

A second later, there was a confused and tousled human on the towel. He blinked and sat up while George averted his eyes and Dream hadn't looked in the first place.

"Sapnap," George said while the other wrapped the towel around his waist.

"Hey, George." Sapnap stretched his arms. "What's up? How long was I...?"

"A week." George crossed his arms.

"Oh." The former seahorse pushed dripping black hair off his forehead and finally noticed the puddle forming around his feet.

"Oh? That's all?!"

"Hey, Dream." Sapnap waved at him, getting a nod back. "Well, imma go rinse off."

The soft footsteps disappeared, leaving a faint smell of saltwater in their wake. Dream finally broke into a snicker. George dramatically put a hand over his eyes.

"Oh. My. God."

"What?! He wasn't mad." Dream's laugh was turning teakettle.

"Still, Dream, you should've cleared it before he went in! He basically just lost a week of human life!"

"He didn't lose anything! Didn't you see him? He's all zen and shit, it's like he was meditating. It's g- good for him." The guffaws breaking up Dream's words didn't sell his point.

"Well I'm concerned for his brain suffering whatever side effects come from being a seahorse for a long period of time." George removed the boiling kettle and made himself tea.

"Whatever. I think he's fine."

"Of course you do, so you can carry on experimenting." George did his angry pose with two hands spread on the counter.

Dream eye-rolled during his coffee slurp in dramatic fashion.

Sapnap came back in a robe, humming as he toweled off the ground.

George cleared his throat. "So, um, Sapnap, you like, don't even notice time passing when you're in the tank?"

"Not really, I'm just vibin'."

"Coffee?" Dream offered him.

"Nah."

"But aren't you bored?"

"No, somehow I don't get bored in there-" Sapnap disappeared to toss the towels in the wash and reappeared- "it's like I don't need to be entertained, dunno why."

"Because seahorses are dumb," Dream said.

"Watch it," the other American warned as he poured tea.

"I'm serious, they have smaller brains and probably not a high enough level of intelligence to want stimulation like people do."

George snorted.

Sapnap shrugged. "Fine, doesn't matter. You guys are just jealous you can't transform into something as gorgeous as me and breathe water."

Dream said "Bet" when the word "gorgeous" left Sapnap's mouth and by the end of his sentence there was a long ball python with pure white scales draped over the chair where Dream had been sitting.

George hummed fondly and went to hold the snake, which wrapped itself around him like a loose scarf.

"Let's not compete, boys, we're all beautiful. Even if I'm the cutest."

Sapnap slurped his tea loudly in disagreement.

George was completely preoccupied with the snake making a home in his arms. It made a peculiar whistling noise as he nuzzled it.

"What happened to 'awh you guys can change any time you want to and I have to be around saltwater in the right concentration and I wanted to be an actual dragon and not a dumb seahorse now I can't hang out with you guys in animal forms I'm so jealousssssss,'" George mock-whined.

"I don't sound like that. You're so immature, George."

The snake dipped its head into the coffee cup, making George giggle and hum again as he pet it. Sapnap rolled his eyes.

"I'm leaving y'all to yourselves now cuz your weirdness is weirding me out."

"What if we die in a car crash and no one takes you out of the tank?" George called after him.

"Then I live a happy life as a seahorse! Don't care!"

"They only live like seven years!"

The door shut and George finished off his tea. "I, on the other hand, have nine lives."

He purred, changing into a sleek black cat with white mittens on his paws and a splotch on his nose as if he tried to smell snow. White markings surrounded his eyes like spectacles. His bright blue eyes met the snake's grass green ones and they nuzzled, the cat rolling on its back like the snake was mere yarn to play with.

They were asleep in a tangled cuddle pile within minutes.
