The rest of the week went by, and now it was Friday—and tonight was Homecoming. Milagra was in her room, getting ready for the dance. She had a jacaranda purple dress with silver earrings and the necklace Ramiro gave her. She even had a matching hand clutch with her. Suddenly, she heard the doorbell ring, meaning Ramiro had come to pick her up. Of course, Guillermo was going to be with them during the route since Ramiro was still learning to drive.
Downstairs, Guillermo and Ramiro were in the living room, talking to Violeta and Rodrigo while they waited for Milagra. Ramiro was in a ravishing indigo tuxedo.
"I might as well enjoy this dance while I can since I'm a senior now," Ramiro said.
"Es cierto, hermanito, but you still have prom—and I'm sure Milagra will be your date then, too," Guillermo smiled.
"I'd be happy to," Milagra's voice rang out. She'd just come down the stairs, and everyone was surprised at how beautiful she was.
"Wow, way to let your inner beauty shine through," Guillermo remarked.
"Couldn't have said it better myself," Ramiro smiled. "¿Lista, Mila?"
"Lista," Milagra smiled. She hugged her parents tightly.
"Have fun, mi nena," Rodrigo smiled.
"Buena suerte," Violeta smiled.
"Gracias," Milagra smiled back. She took Ramiro's arm and walked with him and Guillermo to the former's car. She got into the passenger's seat while Ramiro was in the driver's seat and Guillermo in the back, and they went off to Tanglewood.
Once the group arrived at Tanglewood, Ramiro parked the car next to the curb, and everyone got out.
"Gracias, Guillermo," Ramiro said.
"De nada—have a good time," Guillermo smiled.
"We will," Milagra smiled.
Inside, many of the students were having a lot of fun. Zooey and her friends were watching Bunty and Iggy themselves having a good time.
"Look at Bunty, pretending to have fun with Iggy," Zooey sniffed. "Who could possibly enjoy themselves with a nerd?"
"Iggy, that book you checked out for me was great," Bunty smiled. "I think I'll buy a copy of my own."
"Good to know, Bunty," Iggy smiled back. "I'm glad you enjoyed it."
Bunty looked to the entrance and said, "Oh, look who's here."
Everyone turned to the entrance to find Milagra and Ramiro entering, and they couldn't help but appreciate how cute they were. Zooey glared in disgust and jealousy—she was still livid that Ramiro preferred Milagra.
When a slow song played, lots of students were on the dance floor, enjoying themselves. Zooey was still glaring as Milagra and Ramiro danced lovingly.
"Look at Milagra, dancing with my man," Zooey huffed. "How is it easy for someone like Milagra and Bunty to make someone love them? Can tonight get any worse?"
Suddenly, Principal Winston said into a microphone, "Okay, boys and girls, you all voted for your Homecoming King and Queen, and now it's time to announce the winners. Our Homecoming King is Ramiro Reyes!"
Ramiro was surprised, and he went up to Principal Winston, who placed a crown on his head. Zooey thought Ramiro looked dreamy with that crown.
"Isn't he charming?" Zooey gushed. She was ready to receive the Homecoming Queen tiara, but...
"Our Homecoming Queen is Milagra Martinez!" Principal Winston continued.
Zooey was horrified that she'd lost the title to Milagra, who went up to Principal Winston, who placed a tiara on her head. Everyone cheered loudly for the Homecoming King and Queen, except for the jealous Zooey.
"Oh sure, Milagra gets to be queen and I don't," Zooey huffed. "That's just peachy!" She really wanted to leave, but as she turned around, she tripped on her own two feet and fell face down. When doing so, she pulled a tablecloth down with her, and it covered her head—and her dress was so short that it not only exposed her frilly underpants but also a birthmark that was right under her right butt cheek, to everyone's shock. She even had some drinks spilled on her legs.
"Well, it just goes to show that not only is inner beauty very important, but so is decency," Milagra smirked.
Everyone—including the staff—started laughing at Zooey, who was terribly humiliated, and it was safe to say that she truly deserved it for making fun of people for the way they looked. When Zooey got up on her feet, she was dismayed.
"I'm never showing my face at this school again," Zooey whined. Then she ran out in tears.
While everyone was still laughing, Milagra and Ramiro touched each other's hands and looked at each other lovingly—and the next thing they knew, they shared a kiss, which didn't go unnoticed. Now Milagra and Ramiro were officially a couple. After that, it was like everything fell into place.
