The story of Sofia Wiart

Childhood dreams.
Desire for a future created by an innocent soul; a longing for a lifestyle they once saw or imagined.
At age six, Sofia Wiart already knew what she wanted to become and with all the might a kid could muster, she defended her idea of adulthood.
She wanted to be a singer and she made it known, raising her voice as she elaborated on why this path would be her own. She had annoyed her parents with the idea for years, always having the same answer to the highly-asked question "What do you want to do when you grow up?". "I'll sing." She would reply eagerly, brown eyes shining with unusual determination, swollen face pulled into the most serious expression.
At fourteen, she joined a band composed of scrawny teenagers attending her school, teenagers she would later title as her best friends. They were five kids with similar psyches and aspirations, with the same craving to compose. She was the main vocalist of the group but she also assumed the role of leader, her natural resilience and strong personality allowing her to fall effortlessly into those responsibilities.
Together, they produced a whole album made out of eleven songs exploring the hardships that came with discovering yourself and simply existing.
All of those songs were in English, a language that was still relatively foreign to the majority of them and it made it all that much more meaningful. They would spend days rewriting their lyrics, dictionaries in hand, to make them absolutely perfect before relying on Sofia to bring those words to life. She spent sixteen years in her home country before moving from France to the south coast of California where her father's hometown welcomed her with open arms. Her parents got divorced the previous year and mutually agreed that she would follow her father back to the United States, however, she would come back to France for the various holidays.
So amid a scary new beginning, she wrote her second album, this time alone. She called it "The End", a clear representation of how she felt at the time. She loved coming back to France, getting to take the train to Paris for the day to hang out with friends, and coming back to her small village where she could explore the woods near her house at dusk. Yet, she also loved the vibrant beaches and the early days spent surfing with only the sound of the crashing waves as a company. Her life was vastly contrasted and she felt the need to hide just how different she was, masking her accent despite how the other teenagers at her new school found it "cool" while also banning every English word in her vocabulary when she was back home. She didn't want to stand out, she didn't like to stand out, so she was either American or French, never both. Her next album came out three years later, just after her twenty-second birthday. It reapproached themes she previously sang about with a new and grown-up view: yes discovering yourself was hard and changes were scary but eventually everything would be fine because that's just how it's supposed to be. Naturally, since she talked about fate, the album was called "Fatality".
