Not Enough Woman

Women are told on an everyday basis
That we are not enough
Not enough beauty
Not enough hair
Not enough lightness
Not enough curve
Not enough eyes
Not enough lip
Not enough breast
Not enough body
We are reminded that we are not enough
Of something unattainable
By beauty experts
And photoshopped magazine covers
Airbrushed adverts
We are reminded of our inadequacies
By each other
By the men we love
By the ex girlfriends shadow
That refuses to leave our relationship
By the mistresses that share our lovers kisses
We are not enough beauty
Not enough laughter
Not enough modesty
Not enough meekness
Not enough lady
Not enough strength
We are told we are not even close
Not enough of something unattainable
We are not enough hair
Not enough lip
Not enough curve
Not enough eye
We are not enough of anything
We are simply lacking
And we shrink ourselves trying to
Curve our bodies into modes
That dont fit
Into spaces that were not meant for our outlines
We are not enough mother
Not enough daughter
Not enough sister
Not enough friend
Not enough wife
Not enough of something
And we bend and twist ourselves
Into spaces and tiny cracks
Into shapes that dont make sense
We bend and twist
And cut
And sew
And tuck
And cover
We cover so that maybe they wont see our inadequacies
We are not enough
We are not enough
We are told we are not enough
And we believe them
