Draco was one of the first in that morning. He wasn't sure if Y/N had a shift today, but he knew they hadn't clocked in yet. He was checking the board for his patients that had been assigned to him that day when his eye fell onto a nurse besides him. He felt drawn to her chart, not her. The name at the top in particular. "Healer Y/N has an appointment?" He murmured. The nurse jumped slightly going red bashfully "Oh Healer Malfoy, how lovely to see you. Yes they're one of my regular patients."
"Oh really?"
"Yes they come in for occupational therapy and a top up of their potion each month."
"Occupation therapy?"
"Well just because they're breathing better now doesn't mean it's not good to stay on top of occupational therapy." She said cheerily "the potion does most the work but we're still working to wean them off so they can breath on their own again. They're showing so much promise." With that the nurse walked away. Malfoy stared after, breath on their own again? When could they not.

He checked his watch grabbing his chart and heading to see his first patient but the question burned in his mind. "Miss McDonald please slow down ma'am can you please tell me more about these weird flashes you've been having?"
"Well yes It's the weirdest thing ever since last year when I saw this boy at the ministry for magic and I keep having these dreams but they aren't dreams they're memories of this boy who looks exactly like him except it's not him because his eyes and glasses are different and he's got these three friends and-". Theodore walked across him and Draco hurried away mid appointment pulling Theodore to the side. "Why is Y/N a patient here?" He snapped grabbing the other man by the shoulders.
"Oh shit um listen Draco it's really not my place."
"Like hell it is! They can't breathe on their own?"
Theodore sighed "the killing curse was half used on them and they were rushed to hospital, some of their arteries had to be repaired in a way consuming oral potion or magic could not do so they had to be operated on, they flat lined on the table, lungs collapsed too and once they were revived everytime the healers tried to help them breath alone they would flat line again." He explained "listen I really have to go." He hurried off. Draco stood there in shock.

"I never knew death eaters were so nosy." A voice said from behind quietly, almost whispering it in his ear. He went red with fury at the two words and turned "I'm not-" it was Y/N. He stopped going silent as they grabbed his wrist where the extremely faded mark still sat on his skin beneath his long shirt. "You're not what?" They hissed. "Y/N I was just- I heard you were a patient and-"
"What you thought you were entitled to know what was wrong with me?" They dug into him making him wince slightly before turning and going to his patient "Miss McDonald I just cannot apologise enough for my colleagues behaviour he's a new healer, let me take over this consultation and I promise this will never happen again." They said shooting him a glare that made his veins coarse with shame. "And Healer Malfoy." They called out to him "get to your next patient before I report you and Healer Nott for breach of patient-healer confidentiality." He nodded and hurried off.

His next patient was an elderly man who just came in for an arthritis consult, the man hadn't arrived yet and on his way to the office to wait he saw Y/N pass him on the opposite end of the hallway clearly having already finished up with his first patient. They looked around not seeing him and slipped into a room Draco didn't recognise. His eyes narrowed and he closed the distance between him and this room, voices could be heard. "Y/N! You're late for your appointment."
"Sorry I got caught up with a patient."
"You aren't even clocked i-"
"I know can we just get on with this."
"Ok well you know the drill." Draco neared the slightly ajar door as a wand was pointed at Y/N's chest. Some sort of potion reversal spell was muttered and then silence. Until rasping could be heard, a bang heard. Crashing ensued as medical instruments were knocked off the table. He couldn't listen to this he burst in. "Healer Malfoy thank god, they're crashing help me get them onto a bed." He nodded lifting them up and placing them down. Y/N attempted to struggle clearly trying to get away from him, but to no avail. The nurse pulled out a large needle and a potion taking some of the solution into it before handing it to Draco. "Inject them with this whilst I grab a tube in case it doesn't work." He took the needle and pressing it into her pushing the fluid into her veins before removing it and watching to see if it takes effect.

They gasped like a drowning person taking their first breath of air. The nurse rushed over "Y/N are you alright?" She asked checking vitals. Draco blinked back tears. "Y-yes shit I forgot what that felt like." They joked bittersweetly. The nurse laughed listening to their breathing "well you haven't crashed like that in a while sweetie."
"Guess that means I'm stuck on this stuff a little longer." The nurse smiled sympathetically "Yes that would be the case. I'm not going to do exercises today with you, I'm going to take you for some screening instead and I'm calling you in sick." They nodded as the woman walked away. They turned to the blonde "thank you healer malfoy." They said not meeting his eye. He nodded gulping. Y/N sighed weakly taking his hand "Relax I'm fine." They smiled at him. It wasn't quite a smile of friendship, but it was a smile that felt like a start to Draco, a start of hope.
