"It's not that I don't trust you with anomalies, you know that, right?" Miguel glances at you hesitantly as you follow him through the building. "You can capture anomalies whenever you'd like."
You smile reassuringly, "I know, and thank you, Miguel. But I think I will like this job more, I feel it would benefit me and the Spider Society."
He smiles down at you wordlessly, a glimmer of pride shining in his eyes. As you follow him, you recognize the familiar journey which allowed you to figure out where he was taking you. Finally, you and Miguel arrive at your familiar sanctuary: the training gym. The two of you come to a halt a few steps within the entrance, observing the loud gym teeming with action.
Several novice spiders practiced drills in pairs, preparing for the upcoming lesson. It wasn't hard to point out where their instructor was amid the flurry of activity. He stood apart from the rest, leaning casually against a stack of equipment with an air of effortless confidence, arms crossed over his broad chest.
He was a striking figure with his crimson suit clinging to his defined body, the navy blue sleeveless sweater hugging his figure loosely was a nice representation of his charming, devil-may-care character. His perfectly unkempt, dirty blond hair highlighted his piercing blue eyes as they darted sharply between the rookies, assessing their every move with a critical gaze. Though he looked nonchalant, his presence commanded attention-every novice seemed hyperaware of his watchful eye, eager to meet his impossibly high standards.
"That guy is Ben. He's a good friend of mine. I'm warning you that he's a lot to handle, but I think you'll manage." Miguel crosses his arms, nodding toward the ripped Spiderman standing out amidst the army of Spiders, directing the novice recruits.
Upon hearing his name, Ben swings over within seconds. He lands before you and it seems like a faint spotlight shone over him, highlighting his spectacular entrance. You watch in disbelief at the unnecessary extravagance.
He flips his hair and caresses his flexed muscles, groaning, "Boss, I know this place lacks instructors, but you gotta spare me. These kids don't understand the amount of restraint it takes not to drill them into the ground with my awesomeness."
Ben is known as the dramatic and pretentious Spiderman, but you hear he is one of the strongest.
"Lucky for you, you have a replacement." Miguel looks down at you to find you staring judgementally at the theatrical Spiderman. With his elbow, he nudges you to stop and properly greet him.
"Enchantée." You say slowly, trying to hide your appraisal.
Ben eyes you with obvious critique, "She's gonna replace me? You sure about that, Boss?"
Your eye twitches as you glower at him, ready to pounce and make him regret his words. "Tu vas le regretter." (You'll regret that)
Ben squints his eyes challengingly, "Déjà vu. Encore." (Already seen. Again)
You stare at him wide-eyed in bafflement, That doesn't even make sense! Don't pretend you know French, you imbecile!
You jab a hostile finger at him, glaring fiercely, "Pour qui tu te prends?!" (Who do you think you are?!)
Miguel's eyes bounce between you nervously, "Alright, settle down, you two." He raises a stern finger at Ben, "You're the one that wanted to get back to taking down anomalies, so you should be thanking (Y/N) for taking your spot."
Before Ben could reply, an anomaly alert from Miguel's watch interrupts him. Miguel sighs with slight irritation at the absurd coincidence but opens a portal nonetheless. "I gotta jump on this one, sorry (Y/N)." He made sure to send one last look at Ben, "Behave. I'll be right back. You two need to get along."
