The Portal - Chapter 1

Mackie's POV

I started to unpack my stuff, happy that we moved from that town and back into Gravesfield. The only thing I miss is my friend Kelly. I left my room for later and went to the living room. "Aunty went out to her new job." Jax my cousin said, while playing with a fidget. He looked up and asked, "Want to explore?" "Explore where?" I asked knowing the town I grew up in. "The woods!" Jax said yelling like a child. Jax is 13, I'm turning 14 in about 6 months. "Yeah, sure." I agreed, making sure he wont get into trouble.

We left the house and went towards the back and went into the woods. There was a squirrel that Jax tried to talk to, and a big white spider he showed me. We walked until somehow an owl stole Jax's fidget toy and my notebook full of my stories. It ran into that old house that Luz used to live in about 8 years ago, and when we ran in we were in a tent. The owl hopped dropping me and Jax's stuff. We picked them up and when we picked them up, the stuff around us started to wrap themselves up.

"Get Back Here!" We heard someone say. Everything left by then and someone picked us up and said, "You're under arrest for working with Eda the Owl Lady" That same guy said, he was wearing a white cape, with a grey mask. He grabbed us and threw us into an old time car thingy. "YOU BETTER LET US GO, YOU. YOUR IDIOTS!" I screamed at them to let us go. "Your just frustrated, calm down" Jax said playing with his fidget. "HOW ARE YOU SO CALM!" I yelled at him, getting more angrier. "Write a story in your book" He said, passing my book to me. I opened it and started writing.

We ran, heading to the forest, with the rest of our family. Leaving our old life behind and taking only our important stuff. We hid in the forest, from the bounty hunters. We split up and hid at most 20 feet apart. I climbed a tree seeing a bounty hunter just under my feet. Almost slipping, I clung onto the tree branch above me. Some leaves dropped warning the bounty hunter something was above him. He pointed towards me before a squirrel ran down the tree, saving me. I started climbi-

I felt something tug my sleeve knocking me out of my story trance. "We stopped." Jax said quietly. "So you went for a thriller story." He said, implying he read my short story. "Sorry for disturbing you." He said. "I know you said that I shouldn't disturb you during these, but we are going to some kind of jail." He said looking through the barred window. The door opened and Jax fell face first to the ground. "Did you have a nice trip?" The guard asked.

"Yeah." Jax said giving him a thumbs up. They picked us up and threw us into a jail cell. "How long do you think we are going to be in here?" Jax asked. "Probaly 30 minutes" I answered, confident in my lockpicking skills. I walked towards the door and used my hair pin and attempted to lockpick the cell door. But unfortunately the door somehow ate my lockpick. "It ate my lockpick!" I yelled. I sat down and asked, "Do you have any snacks?" Jax grabbed something and passed it to me. It was a TikTak bar. I opened it and had an idea. I broke a peice and gave it to the door. It opened and we left.

Once we found our way out a big man confronted us. He was wearing white, with a mask that looked like a big nose with yellow button eyes. He grabbed us and brought us to some dude with another mask that was yellow and deer antlers. HOW MANY MASKS DO THERE HAVE TO BE!! He looked at us and said, "You're human?" We nodded our head and then he said, "Escort them to the castle and into a spare room." He announced to everyone else.

We were taken to a big castle and into a room with a bunkbed. "Why are we here?" I asked cautiously. The guard stayed silent while we waited in the room. When someone came in they bought us food and and a few water bottles. We ate the strange food and drank the water that tasted normal. It was like this for a few days before the yellow antler mask guy showed up and said, "I never got to introduce myself, my name is Emperer Belos and you're in the boiling Isles." He explained quickly. "I didn't hear of a place called the 'Boiling Isles'" I said. Belos started to explain with, "The Boiling Isles is a different world, a demonic place. I am trapped here and you are too, I became emperor Belos to purify this place." He explained and this time Jax asked the question, "How is this place demonic?" Belos looked at him and said "The wild witches and Demons who live in this place. They are the reason why this place is evil." He explained.

"And I want you to help me cleanse this world." He said finally convincing me, he sounded like he was a good man too. "We'll help you cleanse the evil of this world." I said wanting to do good. "Good, I would like you to meet my nephew, you'll be working with him." He said.

He guided us towards a room with a strange symbol and golden doors and the doors surrounded us were white. We walked in behind Belos unable to see anything. He called to his nephew, "Hunter, we have new recruits and I would like you to train them." He said. He walked away and left us to his nephew. "As Emperor Belos said, my name is Hunter, but you may call me the Golden Guard." He said as he held his hand up. We shook hands as we said our names to him, "Mackie." I said. "Jax." I heard my cousin say while fidgeting.
