Jabbar's pov

I don't know if you have heard the adage that says "Twenty children can not play together for twenty years." Well, I hear it a lot from my aunt and I never really understood what she meant by the statement until now.

I've lived with my aunt in Abuja for the past sixteen years now. To be honest, there isn't even any difference because Aunt lara was everything to me. She was so caring, loving, very understanding and didn't hesitate to attend to what ever my needs were if it's within her reach. How about her husband? He was so kindhearted,I mean not everyone would appreciate having another man's child under their roof but Uncle Matthew was so so different.

Also, Cecilia, Aunty Lara first and only child. "Cece" as I fondly called her never for once made me feel down or feel like I wasn't part of their family. She had even become practically like my sister judging from the fact that she was born right before my very own eye.

Aunty Lara had told me that my dad died in a fatal plane crash when my mom was just about six months pregnant with I and my brothers. She made me understand that my dad's family had been so adamant in accepting the marriage between mum and dad due to the fact that my mum was a Christian and they were strong Muslims. Also they had issues with mom considering the fact that she was not from a very rich family and even went as far as saying that, mum tried to pin down dad with her pregnancy. She also made me understand that as soon as my dad passed away, his family members were all pointing accusing finger at my mum saying that she knew something about their son's death. It got so bad to the extent that they threw mum out of the house claiming that all the landed property my dad left behind had become their own.

Aunty Lara also told me that after dad's family threw mum out of the house ,she felt very sick and she was afraid that she might lose her sister like the way they had lost their parents to the cold hands of death. After series of medication, mum was well again and few months later she delivered a set of triplet. Then, after about two months, mum suddenly announced that she was going abroad to further her education in medicine and surgery and to search for greener pastures. Aunty Lara said when she asked mum how she would get the money, she explained to her how my dad had kept aside some money in the bank for I and my brothers as a means of investment and only her knew about it . She also said that when returns back ,she would make sure to return the money to the bank as it was meant for my brothers and I to decide what we want to use the money for when we become adults.

Aunt Lara said after my mum left she took us in her care and started catering for my brothers and I. She said occasionally, mum would call and and inquire about our welfare. Mum would then cry and pour her heart out about how things weren't easy over there and that she wished her husband; my dad never left her alone.

The routine of mum calling my brothers and I continued for over five years before she decided to come back home after she finished her study . Mum graduated with a very superb result so it was easy for her to secure a job fast moreso, what would you expect when she schooled overseas. Within another five to seven years, she had built her own medical health care in Lagos with the help of some of dad's old friends.

At first when mum came back, it was hard for my brothers and I to get use to her because, I mean she left us at birth and came back after five good years, so you don't just expect us to get to flow along with her easily and when mum insisted on leaving Aunt Lara's house to start up a new life in Lagos, I started falling sick every now and then. Mum being a doctor had detected that the symptoms I was exhibiting were associated with phobias symptoms and when she took me to see a specialist, I was diagnosed with Agoraphobia, that's fear of leaving your home and not being able stand unfamiliar places. She left for Lagos with my brothers leaving me behind with my aunt while I had to undergo systemic desensitization .
