"Alright, it'll be due Monday," the teacher said.

Great way to kick off my weekend, Lainey thought.

Her math teacher had assigned a time consuming project that would take up her entire weekend, especially considering she wasn't super proficient at math.

The bell rang and everyone hurriedly exited the classroom, eager to take their 5 minute break between periods.

Lainey sauntered over to her locker, disinterested in the idea of attending her next class. She shoved her math textbook inside the locker and sighed, thinking about how painfully grueling her math project would be.

Her locker door slammed shut, revealing a smirking face on the other side.

Lainey smiled and rolled her eyes.

"Hi, Tom," she said.

"Hi," he said back, staring down at her.

"What do you want? We only have 3 minutes left of break," Lainey said, locking her locker.

"You're coming with us this weekend," he said, grabbing her hand and rubbing his thumb over it.

"Where?" Lainey asked confusedly.

"To our show, remember? We talked about it at the beach," Tom said, furrowing his eyebrows.

"Oh, about that, I can't," Lainey said, gripping his hand and pulling him in the direction of her next classroom.

"Why not?" he asked.

"Because I have this stupid math project due Monday that's gonna take me all weekend," she huffed.

"Um, no," Tom said, stopping abruptly in front of her.

"No?" Lainey asked, raising her eyebrows.

"You're not letting a stupid math project ruin your weekend, I'll help you finish it tonight," he said, letting go of her hand and gripping the sides of her waist.

"Oh, so you're a math wiz?" Lainey asked as she laughed.

"What's that?" he asked with a small head tilt.

"It's an expression," Lainey said.

"I'm good at math, if that's what you mean," Tom said with a smirk.

"We'll see about that," Lainey taunted.

Tom smiled and bit his lip.

"Don't be at my house any later than 5, okay?" she demanded, pointing her finger at him.

"Okay, boss," Tom said with a little laugh.

Lainey worked through the rest of her school day and began to get butterflies in her stomach as she watched the clock switch to 4:30 P.M. She knew Tom would be at her house soon, and even though she had known him for a decent sum of time, he still made her nervous and jittery.

Her aunt was gone on a business trip, and she would be back Monday. Lainey rarely saw her aunt because she was always doing something "work related."

Lainey heard a knock at the door as she twiddled her thumbs and she stood up abruptly.

She walked toward the door and peeked out of the peep hole, seeing Tom standing there with his hands in his pockets, patiently waiting for her to open the door.

Lainey opened the door for him and stood aside so he could come in.

"Hi, pretty girl," Tom said nonchalantly as he entered the house.

"Hi, Tom," Lainey said.

"Wow, your house is nice," Tom said, surveying the entrance.

"Oh, please," Lainey scoffed as she shut the door.
