HEATHER

The next morning, Heather decides that she can't sit still without one last attempt to salvage her marriage. After Veronica left -for the second time- Heather spent hours crying, emptying out the mini bar, and eating more Toblerone than she could stomach, but she woke up determined to try again.

Heather would be lying if she said she wasn't angry at Veronica for abandoning her in a motel with nothing but a box of Cheerios to her name, but she knows right now is not the time for revenge, it's the time to finish what they started.

The Sawyer's cabin was miles away from the motel. Heather wished she could say it had been easy walking that far but in reality, the scalding July sun and the creepy guys who stopped to offer her a ride had almost made her give up. Almost.

She stops walking when she sees the sight of the dingy old cabin, and she breathes out a relieved sigh. Finally!

Relief soon turns into dread as Heather finds herself stepping into the front porch again, just like she did the day prior, the feeling of deja vu making her stomach ache.

She takes in a deep breath and knocks on the door. Veronica takes less time opening the door, but she looks somehow angrier.

"What the fuck are you doing here?" she demands, smoke practically coming out of her ears. "Did you walk here?!"

"That's not the question," Heather says. "The question is number 20: what does friendship means to you?"

"What?"

"I'm here to finish what we started."

"Oh my god. I can't believe this," Veronica frantically runs her hand through her hair like she's trying to stop herself from a mental breakdown. "I can't believe you walked all this way, it's like 10 miles away and you walked."

"I didn't ask you how many miles it was, I asked you-"

"I don't care what you asked me! I'm not going to answer anything."

"Actually, question 20 is to me, so you're supposed to be asking it."

"I'm not doing that," Veronica answers dryly.

"Fine, then I'll do it myself!" Heather says.

"Heather, stop!" Veronica pleads. "I think I made myself very clear last night. We're done. Our marriage is over."

"Yeah, I got all of that," Heather scoffs.

"Good, then leave me alone, please," Veronica says. "I have a lot of stuff to do."

"You don't have five minutes?" Heather asks. She is well aware of how desperate and pathetic she sounds, and she hates herself for it.

"No, I don't have five minutes," Veronica doesn't cave in. "I have to go to the airport to pick up my parents."

"You told them everything?"

Veronica rolls her eyes. "Of course I did, they're my parents.

"Well, you can leave but I'm staying here until we finish the questions," Heather crosses her arms. Veronica stares at her stupefied.

"You sound like an insane person, do you know that?" Veronica says. "And what do you think it's gonna happen when my parents get here? They're pissed at you."

"I'll just explain everything," Heather gives her a nonchalant shrug.

"You're gonna explain everything?" Veronica mocks her. "I don't think that conversation is gonna go the way you think it will."
