ARES RUSSO:

He throws the phone at the wall and we duck, scared for our lives.

"You're nearly beating your record, Lorenzo! Only six more phones to smash!" I exclaim, teasing him.

Lorenzo looks at me, glaring at me, "Leave before I smash your face."

Elijah laughs from behind me, "Don't worry, Ares. He won't do anything on my watch."

I sigh in relief and sit down next to Elijah.

"Okay. Can we finish what we were talking about?" Dante asks, crossing his arms.

"Oh yeah. Athena's getting married," I remember. I pause, "Don't you think it's weird that Athena is getting married before us?"

"Well back then Athena would search for love since she's never had it but now it's by force. She has no choice," Marcello mumbles.

That was a bit harsh.

"What happened to your statistics?" Dante asks, leaning forward.

Marcello glances at him and sighs, "According to my statistics five years ago, Athena was most likely to find a boyfriend—"

"Stop right there," Lorenzo grumbles, "She's getting married before us, which makes me question how the fuck rest of you are not married?"

Dom snorts, "Says you. What the hell are you waiting for?"

I glance at Marcello. Yeah. I don't think that guy is ever going to get married.

"I don't have time for a girlfriend or a wife with all this shit going on," Lorenzo mumbles, reading the contract again.

"Why would Mom and Dad risk everything over a marriage," Dante asks, confused.

I think he still hasn't processed that Athena is getting married.

"What we get out of the marriage is money," Lorenzo says. I roll my eyes, we have plenty of money. "The Volkovs get... Nothing."

"What?"

"That doesn't make any sense," I say, furrowing my eyebrows, "They've got to get something out of it."

Marcello speaks up, "An assassin, a revenge killer, a mastermind is who he's marrying. And he rules over the five mafias, which makes him in control of everything, the most powerful being out of all of us. It doesn't matter what they get because nothing will beat two of the most powerful people getting married."

Elijah taps his fingers on his knee, "So it's about power."

"Yes, that is what I have just said. They will be unstoppable. Especially if they fall in love," Marcello says, bored.

"Who the hell would fall in love with Hades?" Dom asks, grimacing.

"The girls who fawn over him the second they see him," Dante answers, rolling his eyes.

"Anyways, if we knew about this earlier we would know what to do but because someone didn't tell us now we don't."

Lorenzo sighs. "There is no loophole. I was trying to find a way out of it ever since I took over."

"Which was twelve years ago," Dante points out, playing a game on his phone.

I glance at his phone, jealous. How can he play a game but I can't eat? Lorenzo said it's because I eat too loud and it's distracting. That's such a pathetic excuse. I lean over to see what he's playing. Oh my god. It's my favorite cooking game.

"I have that game too!" I whisper shout.

Dante looks up at me, surprised, "Really?"

"Yeah, bro. I love it. What level are you on?"

"Hundred and thirty-two."

I smirk. "I'm on level two hundred and fifty-four. Why am I always better than you at everything? It's getting boring now—"

"You two stop it!" Elijah snaps, "We're discussing your sister's future and you're talking about a game?!"

I narrow my eyes at him, "Yes we are, and what about it?"

Dom gasps, "Elijah I wouldn't let that pass."

"All of you shut up," Lorenzo demands.

We all go silent and look at Lorenzo.

I curse Elijah in my head. I'm going to put a spell on him. Make him shut up forever.

"Marcello contact Athena. Tell her about the family dinner," Lorenzo says, putting the contract away.

Marcello nods and texts Athena and then looks up, "Well from what I can tell she doed what she wants and most likely busy."

"Then tell her we need to discuss the contract," Lorenzo sighs, rubbing his temples.

"You sure you want her to come to the family dinner? Have you forgotten about our cousins? And Uncles? And Aunties?" I ask, tilting my head.

If she knew what they were like she would move to the other side of the world to get away from them.

Dante chuckles, "She will survive. Stop making it like every family dinner is world war three—"

"But it is," Dom interrupts.

"Right. All of you get out. My head is starting to hurt because of you."
