this chapter's a lil boring but bare with me 😭😭
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Avery was a dear friend of mine," I said, "and she will be missed greatly."
"Thank you Reyna."
I gave Mrs. Oaks one last smile before returning to my seat. Little did she know the killer of her one and only daughter was standing before her, dressed in a lovely shade of black, although I would've much rather worn a deep maroon.
I sat with my hands neatly placed in my lap as I watched Mr. and Mrs. Oaks walk around the room, hearing nothing but condolences; "She was such an angel!" and "She was taken too soon!"
Avery was far from an angel; she was a total bitch.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
As I sat among the rows and rows of seats, I reached for my phone as the melancholic couple turned away.
I jumped as I read the black and white text, watch your back. Shit.
My fingers flew across the screen.
Who are you?
that's unimportant.
Um, it definitely is! Who the fuck would say, "watch your back" to me?
don't be naive.
What does that mean???
it means, watch. your. back. :)
Oh yeah? Well fuck. You.
I turned off my phone and focused painfully on the window across from me.
What kind of a pretentious bitch would say that? Watch your back? You watch your back.

"Goodnight," Reyna said to her mom, with a smile.
"Goodnight Rey," she replied.
Her mom left the room, turning the light off. Reyna turned onto her side, and stared out the window. Everything inside of her wanted to scream, but she didn't. For the first time, she was undeniably stumped on what to do.
It was just a text, it doesn't mean anything!
"It does not mean anything!" she shouted.
Keep telling yourself that, Reyna.
