Ding.

Reyna's smile slowly faded when she noticed the number.

hey

She had somehow managed to forget about the mystery person for the entire evening.

Hi.

how are you?

I'm fine.

i'm glad.

Okay.

so, enjoying the party?

Reyna's heart slowed, but quickly sped up again.

Yeah. I am.

When the person didn't respond, she continued.

I know I'm supposed to be scared of you but all you seem to do is know where I am. If you want to stalk me, fine. See if I care.

I stared at the message Reyna had sent, at a loss for words. I thought the note would be enough, but clearly not. I knew what I had to do, but a part of me longed to forget the whole thing. I didn't know why.

I shook away that thought, no, I have to do this.

I got in my car and drove down Kert Lane towards her house. I could see her mother moving around inside.

I slowly opened my car door and walked towards the front door to knock.

My hands began trembling, shit.

By inhaling and exhaling, I was able to steady myself and raised my hand.

Then came the cruel thudding sound as a result of my very own knocking.

The door opened.

"Oh, hello, did you need something?" Reyna's mother asked me, with a bright smile on her face. I almost felt bad. Almost.

"Yes, could you relay a message for me? For Reyna?"

"Sure. She should be back soon if you want to wait for her," her mother said, checking her watch.

"That's okay, just tell her she left her jacket at Clover's Creek."

"Clover's Creek? Why was she at Clover's Creek?"

"We hung out there last week, she had to rush home and left her jacket."

Her mother studied my face, and simply nodded.

"Sure, what's your name?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

My mind went blank, oh no. There's no way in hell this will be the downfall of my plan.

"Uhh, Mack. Mack Richter."

She nodded, smiling, "Well Mack, it was nice meeting you."

Phew.

I returned the nod and turned to walk away until I heard her call from behind.

"You know, you're welcome to come inside some time. Clover's Creek really isn't safe."

I couldn't help but smile, Reyna and I out of all people knew that.
