THE PETERS RESIDENCE, HAWKINS, INDIANA

NOVEMBER 6TH 1983

It was a quiet evening in the Peters household, like most nights. Misty had opted out of movie night with her aunt and uncle knowing she had a chemistry test coming up soon to study for. Of course 'Uncle James' tried to convince her otherwise, and insisted she was the smartest kid he knew in Hawkins, therefore, she didn't need to study. Unfortunately, this wasn't enough to convince Misty though it didn't go unappreciated.

She still hadn't gotten used to the amount of sincerity behind her aunt and uncle's sayings. It's not that she never believed what her mother and father would say to her back in Louisiana but when ninety-nine percent of the time her father was drunk and her mother was in a rush it became hard for her to understand the difference between people saying things because they need to and because they want to.

Regardless here she was, completely zoned out, staring at the periodic table in front of her that her aunt had brought her. She wasn't entirely sure why she was looking at it or if it was helping at all but for some reason, she believed it was more interesting than watching James force poor Loretta to watch 'The Godfather' for the second time this week.

It took about five minutes for her to snap out of her chance and finally start being productive, arising from her seat and climbing over her crimson-coloured bedding to reach into her bedside table for her revision cards she realized there sit a lonely, shivering, Steve Harrington.

All Misty could do was roll her eyes at this sight before placing the cards on the mattress and shuffling over to open the window. This was a normal thing for Steve to do, he claimed it was 'romantic' but Misty just thought it was stupid and dangerous.

"How many times do I have to tell you, you can use the front door" Misty sighed as she watched the idiot climb through the window

"As many times as it takes for you to realize I'm not going to listen," he whispers just before flopping through the window and slamming onto the floor causing the room to shake

A loud shout from her aunt echos up the stairs asking if she's okay to which she just replies

"It's just Steve"

Not expecting a response, knowing this was a common thing for the Peters household, Misty goes to open her mouth until a booming voice carries through the house.

"How many times do I have to tell that boy to use the front door, hell even the back door"

Steve's face starts heating up as Misty gives him a knowing look as if to say 'told you so' as she chuckles to herself

"Like a ninja?"

"Like a ninja" Steve confirms before heading over to the girl and pecking her on the lips which she smiled at. It didn't matter how many times the Harrington boy kissed the girl, she felt the same as the first time, butterflies, fireworks the whole lot. She wouldn't say she was in love with the boy, that was too soon for someone like her but she definitely had a love for the boy.

"So what's on the agenda tonight my lady? Movies with the fam?"

Misty thought if she rolled her eyes one more time her eyes would permanently stay like that. It's not that she didn't love that James and Loretta loved Steve, she couldn't ask for anything better it was quite amusing for the girl to see a 17-year-old get along so well with a man in his mid-forties but when they were together it was if the girls didn't exist, the idiots called it 'bro code' yet the girls just called it 'men being men.'

"Considering you almost fell through the ceiling for the sixth time this week, no." the redhead laughed "Besides, I need to study"

"I came all the way over here to watch my girlfriend study..." he pauses as he climbs on the bed and picks up the cards she had previously left on there "Chemistry, are you kidding me You're like a genius you do not need to study this"

He throws the cards back onto the mattress, luckily they were kept together by one of her black skinny hair ties she rarely used anymore.

"Firstly, I didn't ask you to come over 'my boyfriend' even if it is appreciated" she mocks "Secondly, I do need to study if I want to get a good grade, whether you think I'm a genius or not"

"Well I guess if that's how it's going to be, King Steve is here to help"

Misty could only grin at the boy with a love-sick look on her face. She truly loved the quality time they spent together, it was in that time they didn't have constant eyes on them. They could be themselves.

"You know I hate that name but thank you, my love" she states leaning across the bed to give the boy a kiss "Now before we start, do you want a drink because I'm getting a little thirsty" Their faces inches apart as the boy smiles up at his girlfriend

"Nope, I'm good but could I use your phone real quick," he says pointing at the blush pink phone that sat on the bedside table in Misty's room

"Of course, I'll be right back" She grinned before exiting the room and trotting down the stairs to the kitchen.

Yet little did the redhead know in those two minutes the trust between the couple would fall apart and the "what ifs" would start running through the girl's head.
