the big tornado

I'm sitting on the couch, reading a book and talking with my boyfriend when suddenly the tornado siren goes off. My boyfriend and I lock eyes, then jump up, grabbing a few important things: books, pets, water, and snacks. We run downstairs into the basement with those things. We just moved here, to Louisville, Kentucky, and this is our first tornado. We're huddled in the deepest corner of the basement when I realise that I forgot my phone. I tell my boyfriend to stay and creep back upstairs to find it. I gaze out the window and see the tornado in the distance, and calm down. It's not nearly as close as I thought. I grab my phone off the couch and decide to grab a couple more things while I still have time. A minute later, I have a bunch more things and as I glance out the window, I see that the tornado is on our street. I gasp, hurrying down the stairs with the stuff, and sitting close to my boyfriend.

"It's on our street," I whisper. He looks at me, scared, then we hear a terrible noise. We huddle together as the noise grows louder, and then we hear a sickening sound, the house presumably being ripped away, parts of the ceiling falling through. We hold on to each other for dear life.
