dating troubles

"You say you think about me constantly, yet you forgot me so easily." Kaitlyn says, eyeing her girlfriend, Saren.

Saren tries to take Kaitlyn's hand, but the other girl pulls away. "Kait, yes, I was distracted talking to Landon, but I didn't forget about you. I was just momentarily distracted."

Kaitlyn shakes her head. "No, you forgot about me. I said I wasn't doing well, then I got up and left abruptly, and you two just continued talking."

Saren sighs. "I'm sorry, Kaitlyn. You know I care about you, right?"

"You say you care, but then you continue doing this." Kaitlyn crosses her arms, looking away. "I'm constantly left out, and I feel more like a third wheel sometimes than Landon, and that's not right, seeing as you and I are the ones dating.

"Kait. . ."

"And you constantly talk about your group chat with Elena, and I'm over here thinking like I was the one who introduced you guys to her? And I find out that instead of texting me back, you're texting in that group chat. And yes, I know that you have other friends but I have abandonment issues and I'm lonely. So when you go off talking to other mutual friends without me, then I get upset. I know it's silly, but it is the way I feel."

"I-" Saren starts. "I'm really sorry, Kaitlyn. I didn't know you felt that way."

"I thought it was obvious, babe." Kaitlyn sighs. "I should be used to it by now, but I'm not, and it's gonna take some time until I am."

"I'm gonna try to include you more, I promise."

"Sometimes I feel like I could leave, and my absence wouldn't even be noticed. And if it was somehow noticed, neither of you would care." A tear drips down Kaitlyn's face.

"Baby. . ." Saren lays a hand on Kaitlyn's knee. 

Kaitlyn crosses her legs, letting Saren's hand fall off. "Don't touch me, please."

Saren looks away. "Is there something I can do?"

Kaitlyn sees that Saren isn't looking at her, and nods. "No. I just want to be left alone. I'll see you later, Saren."

Saren stands up, giving Kaitlyn one last glance. "I love you." She exits the room, wiping away tears.

Kaitlyn stares after her. "I-" she whispers. "I love you too."
