I hurriedly unlocked my door as tears that were threatening to fall since entering the building slid down my face. I loudly sighed and felt a unwelcomed feeling of a sob building in my throat, my boyfriend of 6 years had cheated with my best friend, I didn't know what hurt more, the fact that my best friend betrayed me, or the fact that my boyfriend cheated on me.
I let loud sobs escape my mouth, I hated any form of conflict, the whole situation was sickening to me, I held my stomach and cried harder, nothing could be done, I wasn't gonna confront anyone I was just going to remove myself from their lives as swiftly as possible. As I was sobbing I heard a loud bang coming from the room next to mine. With a strike of anxiety filling my senses I wiped at my face with my sleeve and stepped out of my room.
Immediately I was faced with the waxy and unhealthy complexion of my neighbor, he was covered in bruises and dried blood stains. From the looks of it he was halfway in his room, until he had fainted from obvious reasons. According to my nosy neighbors his name was K and he was a replicant, I had heard every nasty name they consistently threw at K, I empathized with him, I viewed replicants as equals and beings with thoughts and feelings, many disagreed heartily especially my neighbors.
With all the strength I could muster I dragged the replicant into his room and shut and locked his door, the neighbors were unpredictably dangerous, I knew I could never be too careful. Focusing on the task at hand I went searching for a first aid kit, which I found underneath his bathroom sink, bending down I scooped up the kit and hurried over to the replicant. I quickly checked his pulse, which was steady, unlike his temperature that was reaching 103.6 and climbing, thankfully I was a nurse at one point in my life, so I grabbed the supplies needed and removed his coat, I took to bandaging the less severe cuts on his arms, while stitching up the more severe cuts also on his arms, all while slowly lowering his fever with the skills I learned.
I was fearful that something was wrong when he didn't wake up after I had stabilized his condition, but after some deduction I realized that he was sleeping. Biting my lower lip in uncertainty, I began cleaning his face of dried blood and the sheet of sweat that made him look waxy. I took a closer look at his shirt while I was making sure all of the cuts were bandaged and stitched properly. noticing a pool of blood in the middle of his navy blue shirt, working efficiently I cut off his shirt, briefly approving of his extremely toned body. Using the supplies at hand I cleaned the old wound that must have reopened during the activities the replicant participated in and stitched it closed, while bandaging it afterwards to make sure the same mistake didn't happen twice. The replicant opened his eyes slowly and rubbed them in disbelief, "Who are you? and why are you here?" I frowned, "I'm your next door neighbor Y/n L/n, I came here after I heard you faint...I patched you up, and lowered your fever" He studied her for a longer than comfortable time. He soon looked away and attempted to rise to his feet, I saw his struggle and put my hands on his waist to make sure he didn't topple, he flinched from her touch, "Am I hurting you? Do you want me to remove my hands?" She spoke softly to not alarm him, he responded with silence and rose to his feet with her hands still supporting him.
He looked unsteady and in pain, "Y/n you should go, a human shouldn't be helping a replicant, I am grateful for your help but it's not necessary" I shook my head, "I'm not leaving until I can assure that your okay, I'm going to lead you to your bed and your gonna lay down while I help you" I said the last bit with stubbornness, he seemed to notice and sighed in defeat. I carefully walked forward step by step with K towards the bedroom door, while giving words of encouragement, I opened the door and walked a few more steps until I reached his bed. Very slowly I helped lower him into a sitting position, he sat down and looked at the floor with a blank look, I felt tears bubble up from the thought of how sad and lonely he must be, always having bruises and caked in blood everytime I saw him.
Gently I sat down next to him, he straightened up and made eye contact with me, I gave him a small smile "You don't have to help me anymore, I just have to take a shower and make my dinner."
My eyes widened as I realized how hungry he must be, "I don't think you can stand to take a shower or make dinner for yourself, so I will make you food, and you hold off on taking a shower until tomorrow." He looked at the floor once more and decided against trying to state all the reasons I shouldn't be helping him. I went into his kitchen and saw the food he had in his fridge, which was the standard noodles etc. I need to stop by my apartment and get the meats and seasonings including other luxury foods I have on hand from my very generous and rich aunt, the last thing he needs is the standard repetitive meal.
With my occupation being a chef I had no trouble deciding on what to make him. 24 minutes later and a trip to my apartment the the meal is done, which I serve it into two bowls, I set my serving down while I carried K's
Into his room, he looked up at me curiously, " My mom always said a home cooked meal could work wonders, so I went by her advice" I looked into his eyes and smiled again while I handed him the bowl. "I hope you enjoy your meal, unfortunately I must leave, my work schedule is very demanding" I let my eyes rove over his body, and walk back towards the kitchen to clean up my mess and put the leftover food away in his fridge, after everything was tidied, I took my serving of food and went back to my apartment.Authors note
