It was the beginning of the first semester of Ameriah's last year of college and she couldn't believe how fast time had went. It seemed like only seconds ago she was a highschool student ready to graduate. Now she was all grown up and trying to figure herself and her future out.
She knew that she wanted to pursue health so she was a biology major on a pre-med track. With graduate school being only a year away she was also starting to think about what she wanted her to field to be as well as her specialization.
As in her present she was just finishing her last class of the day. She had organized her schedule to be from 8am to 2pm so she wasn't stuck on campus all day. As she walked to her car she looked down at her phone to respond to some texts that her roommate Sami was sending her. Sami had been her roommate since her freshman year so they were very close. Ameriah knew a lot of people but her friend circle was small besides Sami and Dylan she didn't trust many.

As Ameriah continued typing she heard a loud honk before a car suddenly hit their breaks and stopped inches behind her "Oh shit" She clutched her chest realizing that she had almost got ran over. People sped around the parking lot all of the time so she kicked herself for not paying more attention.
The person quickly got out of the car and approached her.
She held her breath ready to get cussed out but that wasn't the case, "Yo are you good?" He questioned concerned.
"Yes I—I'm so sorry that I wasn't paying attention" She apologized while locking her phone and putting it in her purse.
"Nah I shouldn't have been going that fast anyway" He apologized as well "Sure you're okay?"
"Yes I'm fine" She assured him "Thanks for asking."
"Only right, were you heading to your car? I can swing you by it."
"That's sweet but it's literally right there" She pointed across from them showing him that it was only a few feet away. "Thank you though."
"No sweat.." He shoved his hands in his pockets not knowing what to say next. However he wanted the conversation to continue so he stood there. He found Ameriah attractive she was 5 foot, brownskin, well dressed, with a nice body and face so he was quickly interested.
"I've never seen you around" Ameriah voiced as she caught herself staring at his facial features closely. He was cute..and tall.
The University of Houston was huge but everyone practically knew everybody. Ameriah was involved a lot in campus so she definitely knew of majority of the black students.
"Well I'm a transfer student so I came at the end of last semester..I don't really know much of anyone." He explained "I'm here on a baseball scholarship, the school has a good team and they wanted me so—here I am."
"Here you are" She gazed at him. She couldn't help it, she truly thought he was cute. Since her last relationship over 5 years ago ended she never really got back into the swing of dating. Tre had messed up her trust in so many ways that she wasn't open to men in the slightest. Unless it was Dylan of course but that was different.
He chuckled, "Uh you like baseball?"
"I never really watch sports like that but going to games in general is always fun."
He nodded "What was your name by the way?"
"I'm Ameriah. You?"
"Jackson Sims."

"Well it was nice to meet you Jackson Sims."
"Same to you, you're very—beautiful" He studied her face and body by looking her up and down respectfully.
"Thank you" She blushed. "I'll see you around?"
"Yeah you most definitely will" He gave her a small grin showcasing his straight pearly white teeth. "Come to a baseball game sometime.."
"I might" She retuned the smile before getting into her car and driving away.
