“Thank you so much for inviting me, Hannibal,” you softly thanked your Lithuanian boyfriend as he drove you home, him holding your hand over the console in the flawless Bentley.
“Of course, my dear,” you saw him give you a fond smile in a fleeting glance towards you. He’d invited you to join him to an opera that evening, the two of you bonding over your shared love of music–albeit two completely different types of music. While you enjoyed your classic rock, metal, and generally alternative style music, Hannibal couldn’t be further from the opposite with his love of anything classical. You had to admit though, his collection of orchestral, symphonic, and operatic vinyls was certainly impressive.
“I still think I don’t fit in with your sort of people, they’re all so fancy…” you thought aloud, lightly tracing over the small, thin scars on Hannibal’s hand.
“You’re fancy too, darling,” he reassured in a soft manner, “You fit in perfectly, love.”
“Are you sure? I know I can dress fancy, but my style of fancy is much different than theirs,” you added, thinking about the contrast of your macabre flare to the elegantly clad men and women whose clothes blended together and didn’t call any attention to themselves.
“Of course,” he paused to kiss the back of your hand, “Your style might be different from theirs, but you have something they could never have.”
“And what’s that?” You leaned your head on his shoulder, his words sparking a happy warmth in your chest.
“You’re much more confident in your own lifestyle and wardrobe than they could be,” he partially turned his head to whisper to you, punctuating the statement with a kiss to your head.
You softly giggled at his words, a smile playing at your lips, “You flatter me, Hanni.”
“You deserve it, my perfect little bat,” he responded, peppering the back of your hand and wrist in soft kisses. One thing that’d always drew you to the exotic man was his inherent acceptance of your dark, and slightly creepy, lifestyle. He’d always been interested in your fashion, and only grew more interested in you the more he learned about your gothic culture. As much as he taught you about the fancier side of life and his particular interests, you taught him about the gothic subculture and everything that went with it–including different types of goths and fashions within it.
“Ah, I had an idea of an outing we could go on together,” you turned to look at him as the idea came to mind.
“Oh? What sort of outing would that be?” Hannibal asked, his interest piqued.
“A goth music festival in Baltimore is going on this Friday afternoon, I was wondering if you were interested,” you watched him carefully to gauge his reaction. His brows lifted in the slightest and he seemed to think for a moment before responding.
“What do you do at these music festivals?” He asked with a slight tilt of his head.
“There’s workshops, different vendors, craft booths, multiple places to meet bands and generally a lot of music-related activities there. At this one, there will be a show going on nearly the entire time with different bands coming up to play and doing meet and greets. So this one is like a festival and concert,” you explained excitedly, looking forward to going and hoping that Hannibal would join you, “There are also a lot of different gothic culture vendors there too, selling clothes, accessories, jewellery—anything goth culture related, really.”
