As we delved into Chapter 2, our protagonist heroes, Lykan and Humphrey, found themselves engaged in a conversation with their friends, reminiscing about the fond memories they shared in the past. Though they had gone their separate ways, they were overjoyed to have Humphrey back after his training with the Patriot Team in the Sindali military. Retiring from service, Humphrey's return strengthened their bond, allowing him to rejoin the UNDERWOLVES and fulfill their mission of protecting the world.

Each member of the group was immersed in their own activities. Lykan enjoyed a delightful conversation with Xandra, overcoming the past issues that had strained their friendship. In a moment of vulnerability, Lykan apologized for his previous withdrawal, and to his pleasant surprise, Xandra forgave him. Meanwhile, the others were engrossed in their own pursuits, some relishing their drinks while Humphrey and Katsuniko engaged in a deep conversation. Suddenly, Yamada received an urgent call, prompting him to excuse himself.

Lykan's POV

While conversing with Xandra, I couldn't help but wonder if Humphrey had informed our parents of his return. Glancing over at him, I noticed his deep engagement in conversation with Katsuniko, a sight that brought a smile to my face. At that moment, Xandra leaned in and asked me a question.

Xandra: "Lykan, I never knew you had a Beast-Kin brother in Humphrey. Can I inquire about your bond? Did you truly adopt him as your brother, despite not sharing blood ties? Could you shed light on your parents' decision to adopt him and why you consider him a brother, especially considering you are the same age?" Her whisper conveyed a genuine curiosity, to which I responded with a reassuring smile, assuring her that her inquiry was not offensive.

Lykan: "Having a Beast-Kin brother never seemed out of the ordinary to me. Initially, I had some reservations about the acceptability of it, but over time, it has become completely natural. I never dwelled on it further. Besides, Humphrey has integrated seamlessly into our family, becoming a cherished member. He is particularly adored by our nephews and nieces, often stepping in when our parents, aunt, and uncle are preoccupied." Gazing at the moon, I continued, "Furthermore, it was my responsibility to look after him ever since I signed the contract. Our family warmly embraced him, imparting valuable knowledge and guidance. Under the mentorship of my uncle Aamon, Humphrey has grown into a remarkable fighter and an exemplary individual, ready to establish his own family when the time is right. I have no regrets, Xandra." The sincerity of my words was mirrored by Xandra's reciprocating smile.

However, our tranquility was disrupted by a sudden change in Yamada's demeanor. His vigilant scanning of the surroundings, repeatedly glancing outside the restaurant, hinted at the presence of something significant that had captured his attention. The establishment's prime view of a field adjacent to the beach only heightened our concern. Exchanging worried glances with Xandra, we sensed a growing gravity in the situation. Finally, Yamada returned to our table, his disquieting appearance deepening our unease.

Yamada: "Humphrey and Lykan, I must request a temporary halt to your investigation. I suspect that something is amiss, with suspicious elements surrounding the mission I assigned to you." His sudden request caught us off guard, enveloping me and Humphrey in a wave of shock. "There is a reason behind this decision. We shall discuss it further at the office next week. It is crucial for us to take a step back, reassess the situation, and address the challenges we are facing. It appears that others are encountering similar issues."

His words lingered in the air, evoking a mixture of curiosity, concern, and urgency. We were left pondering what had precipitated Yamada's sudden change in direction and the significance of the developments he alluded to.

Yamada: "I won't discuss this further, as it remains a mystery."

Caleb: "Sir, what kind of mission did you assign to Humphrey and Lykan?" He raised his arm, seeking clarification from Yamada.
