𝐎𝐍 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐂𝐇 𝟐𝟔, 𝟏𝟗𝟗𝟏, 𝑨𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒚𝒂𝒉 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒆 𝑯𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒔 was born.
Aaliyah grew up in a rough part of Brooklyn, NY. She heard gunshots so much as a child that it didn't phase her anymore and she could literally sleep through a shootout.
Her father, Delroy wasn't exactly emotionally or physically available in her and her older sister Naomi's life, as he only came around for birthdays. Eventually, he stopped coming around altogether around Aaliyah's 13th birthday, and Naomi was turning fifteen soon. Turns out he had another family to look after. They never saw him again. Well, Naomi never saw him again at least. This is where Aaliyah's hatred of men began. She never had a proper father figure in her life, so all men became a symbol of disappointment, abandonment, and dishonesty.
Her mother often struggled with having to take care of two young girls on her own, without anyone's help but their grandmother and her sister. However, she made it work, since they didn't turn out too bad.
Aaliyah had one safe place she could always trust. Volleyball. She was captain of the volleyball team. Volleyball was her escape from everything that was going on in her chaotic life. Even though this very sport was like a safe haven for her, there was one girl on her volleyball team that got in the way of things.

𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐍𝐀𝐌𝐄 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐂, but everyone referred to her as Angie. Aaliyah and Angie were complete polar opposites. Angie came from a richer part of Manhattan, and she was raised in a safe neighborhood. It was so safe that Angie has never heard a gunshot in her life. Even though Angie had a better childhood than Aaliyah, as she had a perfect father figure, she was mixed but white passing for the most part, captain of the Track and Field team, a part of the volleyball team, and most importantly, she was rich, she still compared herself to the other girl more often than she should. She didn't know if she wanted to be Aaliyah or be with her.
They often competed with each other, well mostly it was Angelic competing with Aaliyah.
Angelic questioned her sexuality from time to time when she was younger, but it became more prominent in high school. Especially around Aaliyah. Even though the two were supposed to 𝒽𝒶𝓉𝑒 each other, there was always some kind of.. 𝓼𝓮𝔁𝓾𝓪𝓵 𝓽𝓮𝓷𝓼𝓲𝓸𝓷.
