𝐀𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐘𝐀𝐇 𝐓𝐈𝐑𝐄𝐃𝐋𝐘 walked up the stairs, her mattress and her other belongings clutched to her chest. she hadn't spoken to Janae since she quit selling cigarettes for Vee. Well, Janae haven't spoken to her. Not on her own terms, but on Vee's terms.
Vee didn't show it, but she was absolutely pissed at Aaliyah for leaving the business on her own terms. It reminded her of when Pauline dropped out of Vee's business on her own terms.
A decade ago, well fourteen years ago, Pauline Harris herself went to Litchfield Penitentiary for assault and battery. That's how she met Yvonne Parker. Guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. The only difference is that Pauline was there for five months instead of five years like her daughter.

𝐀𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐘𝐀𝐇 𝐒𝐄𝐓 her mattress next to Poussey, as it was clear that she wouldn't be sitting with Janae, since y'know.. she quit the business.
"Hey, P." Aaliyah greeted, with a small smile. Poussey looks up from her book, a goofy smile making it's way onto her lips as she sees Aaliyah. "What's up, Liyah?" Poussey greeted back, as Aaliyah sat next to Poussey. "How's things with you and T? You guys' friends again yet?" Aaliyah asks, as Poussey's smile fades at the mention of Taystee. "Nah. Things ain't really been that great." Poussey answers, her tone sounding a little saddened. Aaliyah could tell Poussey was upset and rubbed her back gently for a few seconds, before pulling away.
Poussey turned her head to look at Aaliyah. Aaliyah was beautiful, the way she smiled, the way she was so gentle and sweet. Just a beautiful person in general.
Janae stared at the two, almost glaring at Poussey, because of the way she was looking at Aaliyah. Before Janae knew it, Vee turned her away from the two, distracting her from them. "Don't look at her. She's a traitor." Vee directed coldly, obviously referring to Aaliyah as the traitor. Janae nodded, trying not to stare at Aaliyah but it seemed that her eyes were betraying her in a way, as she just couldn't stop turning her attention to the shorter girl. Aaliyah finally noticed and made eye contact with Janae until Janae looked away as soon as Aaliyah looked back at her.
As soon as Aaliyah began to look back at Janae, now she couldn't stop. The way Janae smiled, her curly black hair put up in a bun, and that sharp jawline of hers that Aaliyah loved most about her. Janae was perfect in Aaliyah's eyes, in every single way possible.
"Aaliyah? you still with me?" Poussey worried, snapping her fingers in Aaliyah's face to gain her attention, as it seemed the girl was here physically, but her mind was somewhere else. Aaliyah flinched a little, coming back to her senses. "Yea yea." Aaliyah responded quickly with a smile. Poussey nodded, a little concerned. "How's you and Janae?" Poussey asked, earning a sigh from Aaliyah. She's been hoping Poussey wouldn't ask that question since she didn't wanna think about on how Janae basically dropped her like a hot potato since she quit the business.
"Honestly, I don't know. She stopped talking to me after I quit Vee's business." Aaliyah explained, with a slight shrug. Aaliyah tried to pretend it didn't hurt, but it did. She thought her and Janae had a closer bond than this.
Poussey noticed Aaliyah's sad facial expression and quickly changed the topic.
Soon, Poussey and Taystee were called to go look after the books in the library, which left Aaliyah all alone with her thoughts. Since Aaliyah had no one else to talk to, since she wasn't really close with anyone else in the prison, her eyes eventually returned back to Janae. She just couldn't look away, even when she tried her hardest, her eyes always found their way back to Janae.
Aaliyah couldn't believe how easy it was for Janae to stop talking to her, since this was the same girl who went to the place she loathed most, just so Aaliyah wouldn't have to suffer there, and the same girl who couldn't keep her hands off of her every time they were together. It just didn't make sense.

"𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐆𝐔𝐘𝐒 𝐅𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐃𝐒 𝐀𝐆𝐀𝐈𝐍?" Aaliyah asked, with a smile, as she sat down across from Poussey and Taystee conservated and shared laughs, almost as if they were old friends reuniting with each other after ten years.
Poussey nodded, with a goofy smile. Aaliyah was glad to see that goofy smile again, since she hadn't seen it in a while since Vee got in the way of everything.
"Aw, you bitches friends again? Oh now.. Ain't that some Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants shit?" Cindy teased, as her and Janae sat with the trio. Janae sat next to Aaliyah, as Aaliyah slightly moved away from Janae, a little upset at her for basically avoiding her after she quit the business. Janae noticed this, and raised an eyebrow at Aaliyah, not understanding why the shorter girl was bothered by her presence. "Yo, Al. You good?" Janae asked, patting Aaliyah's thigh. Aaliyah gently moved her hand away, before responding. "I'm fine, thanks." Aaliyah responded dryly, before getting up from her seat and leaving the cafeteria, not bothering to even throw away her tray.
Aaliyah didn't really have a problem sitting with Janae, she just didn't want to be there.
Janae watched Aaliyah leave, her eyes wandering down the shorter girl's body, stopping at her hips. She may have stopped talking to Aaliyah on Vee's orders, but that doesn't mean she stopped finding her attractive.
"Look at you, eyeing that girl down. Lookin' at her like you wanna eat her up." Cindy teased, as Janae just ignored her comment.
"Is she mad at me?" Janae asked the duo that sat across from her and Cindy. The two shrugged, not wanting to be involved. Janae let out a sigh, grabbing her banana.
"I mean, y'all know she done it." Poussey scoffs lightly, changing the topic.
"You don't think she won't go after your ass one day? Make her mad? Look at her wrong... whatever...?" Poussey added.
"Look, business is good and I ain't rocking the boat." Janae spoke softly.
"Can't we all just get along?" Cindy says, causing Poussey to scoff lightly. "Nah, not when she's around." Poussey spoke, before getting up and leaving the cafeteria as well, leaving Taystee along with the two.
"Don't feel bad if you don't see it yet. Took me damn near fifiteen years. I hope you all wise up, before it's too late." Taystee said, before she also left the cafeteria, leaving the two alone with their thoughts.
