Okay so I'm doing this bc I don't want it to seem like I forgot about my books; netflix removed my account and me being the minor that i am *sadness* isn't allowed to get my own. So since i can't go and watch the episodes for inspo, can't update. (even if it hasn't gotten a lot of attention)

So this isn't a chapter but a snippet of a book i've been working on. Maybe I'll post it even tho my originals get even less attention. who knows.

Potential Title: My Father Figure

I ran home, excited to tell my parents what a great time I had on the field trip to DC today with my class. Seeing the monuments, the white house, playing cards in the bus with my friends Jaiden and Lyra...

I ran up the steps, my checkered bookbag decked with memorabilia keychains falling down my arm. As I touched the doorknob, sounds that could compete with thunder itself gradually grew louder until the door flung open and I got launched off the porch, my bookbag breaking my fall.

My mother was running out of the door with an overly packed suitcase, my "father" following her to the door, shouting with a liquor bottle in his hand. I quote father because my dad never seemed like a father figure in my eyes. He was always out working and partying and bringing strange women home on the weekends. My mother knew he did this, and yet she never said nothing but a word.

So when she looked at me on the ground in the walkway of our front yard and grabbed my arm, and I saw out the side of my eye my mom's closest friend wearing her skimpy pajamas as she hugged my dad unapologetically, I knew she had had enough.

And for the next 10 years, it was just me, my mom, and my grandmother in our little cross-country Brooklyn apartment.

Until my dad showed up at our door that one stormy night.
